Street Gangster Convicted In Deadly Armed Robbery In Cobb

MARIETTA, GA -- A Mableton man associated with the Gangster Disciples street gang has been convicted of murder in a 2015 armed robbery at an apartment complex, Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced Thursday . Darius Jarrell Dunn , 25, was convicted by a Cobb jury this week, the DA said. Dunn was one of two gunmen involved in the death of Anthony Tavarez at an apartment on Shenandoah Trail. MARIETTA, GA. - An alleged member of the Gangster Disciples street gang , who have a long history in the metro Atlanta area , is facing life in prison for his role in a 2015 murder in Austell. A Cobb jury found that Darius Jarrell Dunn , 25, was one of two shooters involved in the death of Anthony Tavarez at an apartment complex on Shenandoah Trail. Tavarez, 23, was shot in the back during an armed robbery shortly after midnight on Sept. 16, 2015. Two codefendants pled guilty to their roles in the case as the trial was scheduled to begin. Appellate court affirms life sentence for man in Addison armed robbery

Illinois' Second District Appellate Court has affirmed the conviction of a Northlake man that led to a lifelong prison sentence in 2015. Luis Moreta, 46, was convicted of armed robbery with a firearm on Dec. 5, 2014, after a jury ruled he stole $3,700 from a man he met on Craigslist. Because that was his third violent conviction, DuPage County Judge John Kinsella sentenced Moreta as a habitual criminal to a term of natural life in prison. On Dec. 2, 2011, the victim drove to meet Moreta in the parking lot of an Addison apartment complex on the 600 block of Meadow Boulevard to purchase a black Suzuki GSXR motorcycle he had seen advertised by Moreta on Craigslist. BISBEE — Two men have been sentenced in connection to a February armed robbery and drive-by shooting, while two others are set to go on trial in December. Shaquille Rice, 24, and Rashawn Avery, 22, were each sentenced July 24 to 4.5 years in prison after admitting to misconduct with a weapon. Both had prior felony convictions , making it illegal for them to possess a firearm.   Rice and Avery were arrested for the Feb. 4 robbery at a Sierra Vista hotel during where guns were displayed and cash and other items were taken from three people. The next day the robbery victims spotted Rice and Avery near the Sunburst Terrace Apartments . One of the victims was the daughter of 41-year-old Jaime Montoya Olivas .   According to the Sierra Vista Police Department , Olivas, his daughter, and Joseph Allen Buchanan drove to the apartments to confront Rice and Avery about the hotel incident.
