New real estate reporter tries to find an apartment in San Diego.

I didn’t cry while searching for a San Diego apartment , but I came close. Moving to the city on a Sunday night, I had a five-day reservation at a Motel 6 and needed to find an apartment fast . I also had my 6-year-old tabby cat with me and a new job as real estate reporter for the San Diego Union -Tribune to start the next day. I was fairly confident I’d find a place quickly because in the last decade I had managed to get apartments in London, Chicago, San Francisco, New York City, rural New Jersey, Northeast Pennsylvania and, most recently, Monterey. Not only did San Diego turn out to be the most difficult, it made me change nearly everything I thought I wanted. My criteria was a one- bedroom apartment near the beach that allows cats, a rent of no more than $1,200 and was fairly close to work. To say the least, I stayed at the Motel 6 longer than expected. Protests planned near Fort Sanders monument on Saturday

KNOXVILLE - Nearly two weeks after the death of a counter protester  at a  white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., activists in Tennessee are gearing up to protest and counterprotest the possible removal of a Fort Sanders monument . Rallies that are being billed by some as right wing or white supremacist are being planned for Knoxville, as well as in other locations like San Francisco and Berkeley, California. Confederate Monument Protest The City of Knoxville's communications and government relations director said the event is locally organized and that there are no indications yet that white supremacist groups from outside Knoxville will attend Saturday's rally. However, the Facebook event listing shows members of the newly reformed local white nationalist group Confederate 28 along with other members of local affiliate groups plan to protest Saturday . Photo courtesy of Mountain Peak Marketing Apartment projects are going up across the Treasure Valley from Boise to Meridian to Nampa and to the next frontier in multi- family housing , Kuna. Some 2, 700 apartment units are in various stages of construction among those cities. Some are recently completed and some are being built in phases.  That is a stark contrast to the near zero multi- family construction in 2010 in metro Boise. Multi- family housing has evolved in the 21 st century, largely moving away from large buildings with hundreds of units.
