Printer-friendly version Filed in , The Multifamily Production Index (MPI), released today by NAHB, posted a gain of eight points to 56 in the second quarter. The MPI measures builder and developer sentiment about current conditions in the apartment and condominium market on a scale of 0 to 100. The index and all of its components are scaled so that a number above 50 indicates that more respondents report conditions are improving than report conditions are getting worse. The MPI provides a composite measure of three key elements of the multifamily housing market : construction of low-rent units, market- rate rental units and “for-sale” units, or condominiums. All three components increased in the second quarter: low-rent units and market- rate rental units rose five points to 53 and 60, respectively, while for- sale units climbed 14 points to 57. Sandton’s luxury-apartment demand falling - Moneyweb

NASTASSIA ARENDSE:  I’m sure you’ve seen, as you drive through the streets of Sandton, lots of buildings coming up, a lot of corporates moving into Sandton. I suppose this all started during the early 2000s, when the likes of Investec and Nedbank all moved in. But on the same side of that there are some high- rise luxury apartments that have piggybacked on this relocation of corporates into the area, which would in theory create demand from buyers who decided to live closer to work. We have Kent Gush, who is the managing director of Kent Gush Properties , on the line to talk about Sandton’s luxury- apartment demand . Ken, thank you so much for your time. KENT GUSH:   Good evening, Nastassia. Thank you for having me. NASTASSIA ARENDSE:  I see this all the time – some properties coming up around the corner, especially the luxury apartments . They look absolutely beautiful. But what I want to know is what the demand is like for these apartments at this current stage. KENT GUSH:   As i...

180 apartments sited for University Parkway

MANATEE -- A proposed lakeside apartment complex bordered by newer townhomes and single family homes may soon bring more market-rate rentals to University Parkway. A property owner-controlled by Gilbane Building Co. of Rhode Island has submitted a final site plan to Manatee County that calls for 180 apartment units at 3415 Broadway Ave. The six- building complex would occupy a little more than nine acres in an area with fewer rental options than University Park to the east. Contacted about details the project, a representative of the property owner, University Groves Property LLC , declined to comment. Gilbane operates an office in Lakewood Ranch. Laurie Rastovski, a real estate agent with Michael Saunders & Co. who specializes in rentals, said new apartment units near the west end of University Parkway will be welcome. Having previously worked as a leasing agent at a large apartment complex nearby , she sees the demand. "In that area, it's going to be nice to have s...

Study: Phoenix renters leaving the state, however renter population remains high

PHOENIX - A new study this week from Apartment List states that roughly 68 percent of Phoenix renters were leaving for another state. The analysis was completed by their annual renter survey . Researchers said they surveyed 24,000 renters. They asked them, "Do you plan on settling down in another city," and "If you plan on settling in another city, what's your biggest reason for leaving your current city?" Overall, renters in our state -- along with Texas and Florida -- were still more likely to settle in Arizona. Despite that 68 percent statistic of renters leaving, research associate Sydney Bennet said the demand for our state is still high.  "Although some renters want to leave Phoenix, it was still kind of a desirable location for renters in other cities," Bennet explained . "So, you might be seeing some turnover in renters, but definitely not a decrease in the renter population ."  That sentiment is shared by Jacque Petroulakis with N...
