(KSAZ) - As students move into dorms and apartments in Tempe, prior to the start of classes at Arizona State University , some say the apartments they decided to rent is in poor condition. Some apartments reportedly had no furniture, when they were supposed to be furnished. Some had leaky faucets, and some even had mold. Some say many of the apartments are unlivable. "I think it's a 'bait and switch'," said Glen Kumamoto, parent of a student. "It's not fair to the students." "I'm pretty pissed about it," said Krystal Scott, who is also a parent of a student. Pictures taken inside some of the apartment units show cockroaches on the floor, mold on the ceiling, and conditions some describe as unlivable. Photo courtesy of Mountain Peak Marketing Apartment projects are going up across the Treasure Valley from Boise to Meridian to Nampa and to the next frontier in multi- family housing , Kuna. Some 2, 700 apartment units are in various stages of construction among those cities. Some are recently completed and some are being built in phases.  That is a stark contrast to the near zero multi- family construction in 2010 in metro Boise. Multi- family housing has evolved in the 21 st century, largely moving away from large buildings with hundreds of units. The sale of apartment complexes continues throughout the Charleston region. Most recently, Atlanta-based Radco Cos. paid $22.9 million for the 198-unit former Woodbridge Apartment Homes in West Ashley. The complex at 2040 Ashley River Road is now called Radius at West Ashley . The sale price included $14.1 million in mortgage debt, according to Charleston County property records . The purchase marks the company's sixth acquisition this year and its second multifamily asset in the Charleston region. It also owns Greenwood at Ashley River at 6520 Dorchester Road. The previous owner of Radius at West Ashley was New Jersey-based  Raia Properties , which paid $14.5 million for the complex in 2006. Radco Residential will manage Radius. Radco plans to spend $3 million, or about $15,000 per unit, to upgrade the community. It was built in separate phases in 1972 and 2003 in 11 buildings on 16 acres. More new development is slowly but surely taking shape in East New York, with residences like a Dattner- designed complex with 403 fully affordable apartments and a warehouse-replacing, 77-apartment building in the works. And now, a 21-building (!) affordable housing complex , spearheaded by the city and Monadnock Development, appears to be in the works. According to the Real Deal, the expansive project is looking to rise on the site located at 389-516 Schroeders Avenue, 1111-1123 Ashford Street, and 127-129 Gateway Drive. Many of the buildings will neighbor the modular single-family homes that were recently constructed as part of the Nehemiah Spring Creek project near The Gateway Center. The project would bring 240 affordable homes across 20 four-story buildings and one 11-story building.
