Ex-Christie aides appeal their convictions in bridge case

***UPDATED at 5:17 P.M. on Tuesday, October 13th*** Augusta, GA – A reward is now being offered for information in the shooting death of Leon Hopkins, Jr. The incident happened in the early morning hours of Friday, October 9th at the River Ridge Apartment Complex , which is located at 505 13th Street in Augusta. According to the Richmond County Sheriff ’s Office, Hopkins was hanging out with some friends when an unknown suspect started shooting , striking Hopkins and Coleyone Sheppard. Hopkins was killed and Sheppard was injured. The Richmond County Sheriff ’s Office is requesting the assistance of the community in identifying the person that shot Sheppard and murdered Hopkins. A reward of up to $1,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this incident. Jeremy Lett, 28, was shot by TPD officer David Stith , who was responding to reports of a burglary at the Shadow Ridge Apartments on West Tharpe Street around 8 p.m. Wednesday. After Stith spotted and confronted a man matching the burglary suspect's description, the two men were involved in a physical altercation during which Stith shot Lett , according to TPD spokesman David Northway . The burglary was reported at the complex, but Northway did not know which apartment. Stith, who was not injured, has been placed on administrative leave with pay following the incident, which is protocol when an officer fires his weapon in the line of duty. LCSO honors mother, son who saved 3-year old from drowning | News

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- A mother-son duo, hailed as heroes for saving a 3-year old from drowning back in June, have now received new recognition. Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil honored Severia Heard and her son Colbi with ‘Distinguished Citizen’ awards after the two pulled a 3-year old boy from a pool at The Lakes at San Marcos Apartments in Tallahassee. The entire ordeal was caught on camera, video that has seen been seen and shared thousands of times. The 3-year old began breathing shortly before deputies arrived and is now doing fine. Severia and Colbi also received LSCO coins and SWAT hats for their actions.

Leon Harker, 19 (BCSO) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives have arrested the second suspect in the rape of two young girls who said they were given an Uber ride to a northeast Albuquerque apartment last week. Deputy Felicia Maggard , a spokeswoman for the Bernalillo County Sheriff ’s Office, said Leon Harker, 19, was booked into jail Wednesday evening on two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and other charges. She said the two girls, ages 12 and 16, told detectives Harker ’s friend, Shane Sandoval, 21, had called an Uber driver to pick up them up at a runaway shelter and give them a ride to his apartment. Shane Sandoval, 21 (MDC) That’s where the girls said Sandoval and Leon Harker, 19, both raped each of them, Maggard said. Detectives arrested Sandoval Friday on the same charges.
