Offices, a grocery store and “micro-condominiums” might soon rise out of the ground on a prime piece of land in West Palm Beach west of Northwood Village. These are the first projects that Boca Raton-developer Mario Caprini wants to build as part of an ambitious $70 million complex dubbed Northwood Common s, on a 3.5- acre parcel owned by the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency . Can Caprini get the job done? His company’s website lists his prior development work in Canada and Ohio, including 1,000 residential units, 5 million square feet of industrial parks and “hundreds of thousands” of square feet of office, retail and medical buildings. Police are seeking a man accused of robbing a couple at gunpoint late Saturday , July 29, in Irvine before firing the gun and fleeing, a police official said. A couple had just unloaded their car and were walking to their apartment when a man approached them and brandished a handgun, spokeswoman Kim Mohr said. The man took jewelry from the couple and then shot at them as he ran away, she said. No one was injured. Around 10:57 p.m., the Irvine Police Department received several 911 calls of gun fire and screaming at the Northwood Place apartments in the 500 block of Hayes, Mohr said. Officers arrived and began searching the area, with a help from an Orange County sheriff ’s helicopter and a K-9 unit, but couldn’t find the man after about a couple of hours, Mohr said. Irvine police released a sketch of the man, described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, between 6-foot to 6-foot-2 and weighing about 175 pounds. He has short black hair and dark eyes. The Rhinelander City Council spent little time Monday paying a number of bills related to now- completed streetscape project , and approving a request from the golf course advisory committee to hire an outside consultant to evaluate Northwood Golf Course at a cost of $10,000, but the proposal with the lowest price tag - $230 to light the alley between 28 and 38 North Brown Street - prompted a long debate. Ultimately, the council voted to light the alley for one year, at a cost not to exceed $230, but the vote was not unanimous. The situation with the alley was previously discussed at the July 25 public safety committee meeting . Interim city administrator Keith Kost brought the idea forward after Downtown Rhinelander Inc. (DRI) previously suggested installing lighting in the alley because revelers from nearby bars frequently use it as a place to illegally relieve themselves.
