ALEXANDRIA, VA—An 18-year-old Alexandria man faces charges related to an attempted robbery and sexual battery last week. Alexandria Police say the attempted robbery and sexual battery both occurred in the area of Duke Street and North Jordan Street in the West End on Monday, Aug. 14. Around 3:24 p.m., police responded to the attempted robbery on the bike trail near Holmes Run Parkway . The suspect grabbed a woman from behind and demanded money. The victim struggled with the suspect, who then fled. Not long after at at 3:59 p.m., police say the suspect grabbed a woman's buttocks at an apartment building in the 500 block of North Jordan Street . The suspect fled when the victim screamed. Joshua Sprinkle, 18, has been charged with attempted robbery and abduction in the first incident, and sexual battery for the second incident. LONG BEACH, CA – Eric Arroyo, 31, of Long Beach will face a judge to determine whether or not there is enough evidence to move forward with a trial today. Arroyo is charged with two felony counts each of attempted murder of a peace officer and assault with a firearm upon a peace officer after a shootout he allegedly initiated with police, in which a Long Beach police officer was struck by gunfire from a fellow officer .. The criminal complaint alleges that Arroyo personally and intentionally discharged a firearm. He allegedly fired at a uniformed police officer in the courtyard of a Long Beach apartment complex in June of last year. Three officers returned fire , according to police, and the injured officer and Arroyo suffered what were described by police as “non-life-threatening” wounds in the shootout. SOUTH COBB, GA -- Scores of people have been displaced after a fire tore through an apartment complex in Austell, authorities said. The Red Cross was on the scene Tuesday morning assisting tenants , the agency said. The blaze occurred at the Villas of Riverside Apartments in the 600 block of Whisper Trail, where the Cobb County Fire Department reported that nearly 30 units were damaged. SANTA MARIA, CA — A man who abducted his 9-year-old son after allegedly shooting and killing the child's mother, prompting an Amber Alert, was killed Tuesday in an officer-involved shooting in Tarzana and the child was found safe. The California Highway Patrol reported just after 8 p.m. that the Amber Alert was cancelled. It had been in effect in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties The announcement that Daniel Morozov was found safe came within 90 minutes of an officer-involved shooting about 6:45 p.m. in the 5500 block of Lindley Avenue near Killion Street that left the boy's father, 48-year-old Konstantin Morozov, dead, according to the Los Angeles Police Department . The father brought the boy to a friend's apartment in that neighborhood and police located them with a tip, said LAPD Deputy Chief Justin Eisenberg . Market St., to get on the ground Tuesday as they forced a third worker into the back room of the store in a 9:20 p.m. robbery. The robbers were both wearing pantyhouse-type masks, black pants and black T-shirts. One told the two employees on the floor that they knew where they lived and would kill them if they called police. Police later used a canine to track the suspects and found a mask believed to have been used by the robbers behind a house on Haymaker Avenue Northwest . The employee forced into the back room said one of the robbers ordered her to open the safe, and they took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe and from a register and fled.
