A 33-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in what was believed to be a targeted slaying, the Sun Prairie Police Department said. Around 1:30 a.m., officers headed to the 400 block of South Bird Street for a report of a man being shot in an apartment complex parking lot , according to police. Sun Prairie police spokesman Jon Lothe said a “specific person of interest” in the homicide has been identified. It is the first homicide in the city since 2015. Lothe said several people who were at the scene when the shooting happened have been identified and were being interviewed by police with the help of the Dane County Sheriff ’s Office. He said investigators have received copies of the apartment building’s security camera footage and would be reviewing them. SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) -- After a man was shot and killed in an apartment complex parking lot in Sun Prairie Sunday morning , police say investigators have identified several people they believe were present at the shooting -- including a specific person of interest. According to police, officers responded to the 400 block of South Bird Street around 1:30 a.m., where they found a 33-year-old man with fatal injuries . Reva McFarlane, a first responder who has lived at Rolling Prairie for 11 years, was awoken by the sound of gunfire. "I thought my neighbors were shooting fireworks ... and I heard it," she says. "It was right outside my bedroom window." Neighbor Connie Walton says it was scary incident in a complex she says houses many children -- including hers. "My kid heard the shots.
