PD: Woman hides in locked bathroom while Tempe apartment burns

TEMPE, AZ - A woman was able to escape an attack by her ex-boyfriend and the Tempe apartment he set on fire. Tempe police report that on August 19 they received a call from a resident of an apartment complex, near McClintock and University drives. When police arrived, they smelled smoke, heard a fire alarm and a woman screaming as she escaped an apartment unit engulfed in flames. The woman told police that her ex-boyfriend, 38-year-old Micheo Deangelo Cooper came home for the first time after she broke off their relationship two days prior. After a long argument, Cooper reportedly broke into her bedroom breaking the door and allegedly shoving her against a wall. Cooper allegedly threatened to kill her and burn her belongings while flicking a red lighter on and off. Mission Bay Apartment Destroyed By Five Alarm Fire" width="620" height="412" /> Crews this afternoon have started demolishing the remains of an apartment building that was under construction in San Francisco ’s Mission Bay neighborhood when it was destroyed in a five- alarm fire Tuesday . The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. and quickly grew, sending up a dark plume of smoke that could be seen from many parts of the Bay Area. Flames spread and engulfed the building, and there was initial concern that the blaze could spread to other structures. The flames have since been quelled and water has been poured onto the building overnight and throughout most of the day, according to fire officails. WALLKILL, New York (WABC) -- Officials said careless smoking likely sparked a fire that injured several people and destroyed a dozen homes in Orange County, New York, early Tuesday morning . The fire broke out juat after 1 a.m. in the Crestwood Apartments in Wallkill. Strong winds fanned the flames and caused the fire to spread quickly. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the entire building was engulfed.
