Firefighters struggled for hours to quench the flames at Avalon on the Hudson on Russell Avenue in Edgewater, 15 years after an earlier blaze burned the same complex to the ground as it was being built. Residents have begun moving into the River House, a two- building apartment complex at 1785 N. Water St. consisting of 243 units. Developed by Atlanta- based Atlantic Realty Partners , the project marks the first entry into the city for the firm founded by two brothers originally from Whitefish Bay. The company, which has developed approximately 8,000 rental units across the country, has a handful of other developments in the Milwaukee area , including a cluster of buildings on W. A fire broke out at a west Edmonton apartment complex Thursday morning in the Callingwood area, where crews arrived  to find some residents on their balconies. Edmonton Fire Rescue said 40 firefighters were called to the Westridge Estates B apartment complex at 7611-172 St. just after 8 a.m. and arrived on scene within five minutes.The fire began in a third floor suite and quickly spread. Last week the Columbia Falls City Council approved the development of a new 18- unit apartment complex in downtown. The council gave the green light to Mick Ruis’ proposal, which is emerging as his latest local investment . The apartment complex , valued at an estimated $3 million, will replace the former DaVall Building at the corner of Fifth Street West and First Avenue West. Ruis, a prominent local developer and philanthropist, purchased the empty building two years ago and is replacing it with a three- story apartment complex . According to plans submitted to the city, the 22,000-square-foot complex will feature 12 two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units. The City Council is expected to approve a rezoning today that will allow a 180-unit, $20. 7 million upscale apartment development called the Meadowood Apartments to be constructed off North Military Highway . It would be the seventh apartment complex that opened, received city approval or on which construction began in the past year. Moreover, two other apartment complexes have been proposed. UPDATE: Officers were dispatched to the Sunset Ridge Apartment complex on the 2100 block of Koch Drive for a welfare check Tuesday night . While officers were knocking on the door they heard what they identified as a gunshot. The SWAT team was paged and responded to the apartment building . They entered the apartment and found a dead man. The incident is under further investigation and there is no danger to the public. Lebanon— The apartment complex to be built behind the Element hotel on Route 120 in Lebanon moved has moved a step closer to reality as the developer has filed his plans and sought permission from the city to begin construction. Manchester developer Dick Anagnost filed a permit application with the Lebanon’s city planning department to begin construction on a $4 million, three- story apartment building . He hopes to be able to break ground on the project this fall and have it ready for occupancy next summer, according to Anagnost. A 15-year-old boy and his father are being credited by neighbors for spotting a fire on the roof of their Merrillville apartment building Monday , a day when they were warned there would be fire alarm testing .
