Two years ago, Washington REIT acquired The Wellington, three buildings constructed in 1961 on a 14-acre site, with a total of 711 apartments. An apartment complex is proposed for open land near the state Department of Social Services building on East Middle Turnpike . The plan for the property owned by ABL Associates of Newington is to build 34 one- and two-bedroom apartments on about 3.5 acres at 699 and 719 East Middle Turnpike , according to a letter to the planning and zoning commission.
