Spokane Valley - based Central Valley School District has bought for $2.3 million the Broadway Square Apartments complex at 11910 E. Broadway, in Spokane Valley , and plans to demolish it to make room for the envisioned replacement of North Pines Middle School , says Ben Small, district superintendent . North Pines Middle School , which serves about 500 students, is located on 14.5 acres of adjacent land at 607 N. Pines Road. Small says the district bought the 2.4-acre, 50- unit apartment complex with funds from a $ 113 million bond measure , which voters approved in February 2015. The district anticipates including construction funding for the planned middle school relocation project in a future ballot measure that would go before voters in the spring of 2018, he says. Ruth Bennett woke up at 1 a.m. and looked through the doorway of her independent living apartment in Walker, about 20 miles west of Baton Rouge. BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the medical assistant is a key component in today's medical workplace. In Baton Rouge, Glen Oaks High School is the medical magnet school for students in East Baton Rouge Parish . And the Louisiana Workforce Commission is really good news for all high school students with hopes of a job in medicine. In a big announcement, Louisiana Workforce said "The Medical Assistant certification is now recognized in Louisiana as an advanced statewide credential , creating new opportunities for high school graduates to enter high-wage careers and helping meet the state's current and future workforce demands ." The Commission said it included the credential on the Louisiana State Industry - Based Focus List , giving it headline status. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A car with a Lucas County license plate plowed into a crowd of people peacefully protesting a white nationalist rally Saturday in a Virginia college town , killing one person, hurting at least two dozen more and ratcheting up tension in an increasingly violent confrontation . Multiple media outlets are reporting the car is registered to 20-year-old James Alex Fields of Maumee, based on vehicle registration records . Albemarle- Charlottesville Regional Jail Superintendent Martin Kumer told The Post that a man with the same name and age was booked Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, failure to stop for an accident involving a death, and hit and run. LONG BEACH - Officials at Long Beach School District are pushing for a lower speed limit on Lido Boulevard.  They say they would like to see the speed limit dropped from 40 mph to 30 mph, except in school zones – where it would be dropped to 20 mph.  Superintendent David Weiss says their proposal is intended to calm traffic and create a safer atmosphere around the city's schools. Lowering the speed limit would require the permission of Nassau County since Lido Boulevard is a county road. It would also take the full Town Board in Hempstead to vote yes on the proposal. That vote could come before the end of the year.
