Residents have begun moving into the River House, a two- building apartment complex at 1785 N. Water St. consisting of 243 units. Developed by Atlanta- based Atlantic Realty Partners , the project marks the first entry into the city for the firm founded by two brothers originally from Whitefish Bay. The company, which has developed approximately 8,000 rental units across the country, has a handful of other developments in the Milwaukee area , including a cluster of buildings on W. State St. in Wauwatosa. I toured the complex in late January with property manager Alexis Criscimagna and Atlantic Realty Partners project manager Matthew Schossow . DO NOT GO TO THIS NASTY PIT. It should be condemned and torn down to let nature take over again. We drove 11 hours to stay at this dump and chose to actually sleep in our car. The fact that they think they can charge you for end of stay cleaning (not done at the beginning as reported by many other reviews) and that you are supposed to pay between £120-£140 for electric even in summer really sets the scene. You'll be met in a foyer that looks a little rustic, the staff give the appearance of efficiency rather than friendliness though I cannot see any evidence of the former in the building. You are taken through the lobby which is dark, dingy, paper peeling off the ceilings and to what we worked out as the only lift operating. Inside the lift the walls are peeling away. The hallways are very dark and grim. I had nursed the hope that they spent all the money on the apartments but I was very quickly shown this was not the case. A Broadway landmark was reduced to a pile of bricks and steel beams by a wrecking crew Aug . 15. An excavator equipped with a metal claw began knocking down the building at 700 Broadway, which became a structural hazard once fire gutted it Aug. 6. The intersection of Broadway and West Seventh Street was blocked to car traffic and walkers, but several dozen people stood on both streets to watch the action on the building, which also was known as the Thistle Block or the Thistle Building.
