Image
In preparation for large crowds visiting “Star Wars” land opening in 2019, Disneyland Resort is adding more parking spaces to its “Toy Story” off- site parking lot . Disneyland got approval from the Anaheim Planning Commission to add 455 parking spaces to its Toy Story lot off Harbor Boulevard and Convention Way. This will increase the lot to 5, 378 parking spaces . Disneyland will replace 6- foot walls separating the parking area from nearby apartment complexes with a 16-foot-tall, sound wall made of masonry blocks and will landscape with rows of Canary Island Pine trees . Disney plans to add new lighting for the parking lot and a ramp that would connect to its tram depot. The additional parking spaces are desperately needed in the Disneyland Resort area . During peak season guests unable to get into Disney’s 10,000-spot Mickey and Friends parking structure or the Toy Story lot find themselves with limited options around Disneyland. On rare occasions, the employee parking l...

Forest City sells its last lingering pieces of Tower City for $16 million to the K&D Group

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Forest City Realty Trust , Inc., passed the torch at Tower City Center on Thursday, selling off its final pieces of the mixed-use complex in the heart of downtown. With the sale of the Post Office Plaza and a nearby parking lot , Forest City - once downtown Cleveland's dominant landlord - finished a six-year-long exit from property ownership in the center city. The publicly traded company will stick around as a tenant, moving its headquarters and hundreds of workers from Terminal Tower to Key Tower in the spring. The K&D Group paid $15 million for Post Office Plaza , a 477,000-square- foot office building that is 55 percent vacant. In a separate transaction, K&D paid $1 million for a triangular parking lot next to the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel , west of Public Square. Doug Price, K&D's chief executive officer , confirmed the details during an interview late Thursday . "We think it's a real strategic purchase ," he said of Post...

Aspen Heights project moves forward in Amherst

AMHERST — A large apartment complex proposed for Route 9 at the Amherst- Hadley town line continues to move through the permitting processes in both communities, even as some residents express worry about the size of the project and how it could impact their neighborhood. Amherst Planning Director Christine Brestrup said people have raised several issues with the 131- apartment Aspen Heights residential community in both written comments and orally at a Zoning Board of Appeals hearing earlier this month. One of the most prominent concerns, Brestrup said, is whether people who live at the proposed complex , to be built at 408 Northampton Road, will drive through the Greenleaves Retirement Community and Windfield Family and Senior Estates. Because Northampton Road is a divided highway, those living at Aspen Heights will have to exit the complex by taking a right, heading east, Brestrup said. To travel west toward the shopping malls, the roads through Greenleaves and Windfield migh...

Developer seeks zoning change for Westbury apartment hotel project

The development, spearheaded by the Beechwood Organization , a residential developer based in Jericho, would be designed to attract young people . Most Popular "It employs a lot of principles of smart growth," Beechwood principal Michael Dubb said about the proposed development near Roosevelt Field mall . "It is a walkable community. You can walk to the supermarket, the restaurants and the movies." The town board plans to hold hearings on the proposal Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the pavilion adjacent to Hempstead Town Hall . The proposed six- floor apartment hotel would sit on 5 1/2 acres and compris...

Homeowners oppose Toscana Isles workforce apartments planned...

The mood was tense, the hour was late and the conflict had a familiar ring to it. Ansca Homes is seeking permission to build 206 apartments on Hypoluxo Road, and the neighbors were not happy. “There are two sets of property rights here, the existing communities and the people who want to build,” Palm Beach County Commissioner Shelly Vana said. “I hope the answer is something everybody can live with.” Vana reminded the homeowners that workforce housing , which accounts for 142 of the 206 apartments, is a mandatory program heavily supported by the Palm Beach County Commission . It was declared to be at a crisis level in 2005. Vana added that it would behoove the developer to make any concessions it could, even though some had already been made. At the Wednesday night meeting west of Boynton Beach, a dozen homeowners representing six nearby communities called the planned apartment complex “an eyesore” and “a Pandora’s box.” Homeowners mainly objected to the rental units, which they...

Freedom on four wheels: Van life on the rise in Boulder County

Image
'Your home is wherever you stop and that's what's really, really cool about that whole idea' Rain patters on the roof of John Salhany's 2006 Mercedes Sprinter van as he points out the half-finished ceiling of tongue-and- groove pine paneling that will eventually continue down the walls over layers of plywood and reflective insulation. Items strewn in the hollowed back include a dusty climbing rope , a road bike and a six-pack of Upslope Brewing Company 's Citra Pale Ale . All his essentials will soon have their places once the van build-out is complete, when Salhany will have a bed big enough to accommodate all 6 feet, 2 inches of him, a countertop with a sink and drawers, and maybe even a backsplash with the cutout of the mountains — amenities like that of a house. "I have a lot of friends who are buying houses right now who are just getting to that age, all on the East Coast and I'm just like, how do you guys know where you want to live?" said...

The high- end housing market is on the skids. And companies are unloading gobs of office space they no longer need. Yet some developers want to keep building. Greystar, an apartment developer with multiple projects under construction here, recently said it would move forward with a plan to build another one: a soaring glass and brick tower of 375 luxury units on a 1.3- acre parking lot next to the Texas Medical Center . Laura … more » Business Response: Laura, thank you so much for taking a few seconds to give us a 5 star shout out. Harish Vijendran Pros: This is a very good apartment community to live, overall. Very nice maintenance guys , who are very friendly as well. Good neighbors, even though I don't know them, never had any troub … le. Cons: Most apartments lack dual pane windows , so noise is on the higher side due to regular maintenance activities going on in other apartments, so if you are a person who works from home a lot, be ready. Rent increase was $230 for a one bed for 2017-2018 cycle. And there is easily a $100 on top of your rent advertised (monthly) Extra car parking is paid, but there is always someone who parks in your spot, in the internal community website , this is the top complaint. more » Pros: This is a very good apartment community to live, overall.
