Back-to-school: The hopes, fears, excitement of the WFAA family

In a couple of weeks, my 5-year-old twins will start kindergarten and be in a class setting for the first time in their lives. They were never in daycare or pre-K. Since I work the night shift, that would've meant not seeing them in the mornings. My husband and I have enjoyed teaching them a few things daily before I go to work, including Spanish, their ABCs and numbers. They can also recite for you the acceleration of gravity thanks to their architect dad. But, alas, it's time to turn them over to the real pros. People keep asking me how I feel. Before I answer, let me rewind a bit. The last couple of years have been hard grappling with this moment. Crown jewel Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper is often seen in denim, plaid and baseball caps to match the Waco, Texas, scenery. Love It or List It 's Hilary Farr is almost always wearing jeans and a plain, bright sweater or blouse. Karen Laine and daughter Mina Starsiak of HGTV's new show Good Bones also favor simple plaids and neutrals. Christina El Moussa from Flip or Flop , HGTV's second most popular show after Fixer Upper , will sometimes wear a conservative blouse or drapey sweater on-camera, but she'll also pair them with ripped jeans or visit demolition day in form- fitting yoga pants .
