Megan Favignano @MFavignano Columbia Police arrested Christopher Latrell Moore , 35, of Columbia after a standoff Sunday evening in north Columbia . Moore was a suspect in an assault with a gun that happened early Sunday morning in the city. Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Bryana Larimer confirmed Moore 's name late Sunday night in a news release. The release also said Moore was arrested on the following felony charges: Two counts of rape in the first degree; two counts of sodomy in the first degree; armed criminal action ; burglary; failure to register with a bond of $5,000; tampering with physical evidence; unlawful possession of a concealable firearm and misdemeanor domestic assault . Larimer said Moore allegedly broke into a home while armed with a gun at 3:52 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Old 63 North in Columbia. A female was injured during that incident. WASHINGTON - A Southeast D.C. family said multiple gunshots rang out overnight at their apartment complex and one of the bullets flew through their toddler's bedroom window while she was sleeping. Tyrasha Johnson said it happened early Sunday morning at the Potomac Gardens Apartments in the 700 block of 13th Street. She said she was inside her apartment with her two daughters when a bullet came flying through the girls' bedroom window while her 3-year-old was asleep. The bullet hole shattered the bedroom's glass window and hit the wall right above the bed where Johnson’s oldest daughter normally sleeps. Luckily, no one was sleeping in that bed at the time and the 3-year-old in the room was sleeping directly across from where bullet struck the wall. Johnson and her family still remain shaken up by the scary incident. "I can't sleep,” she said. “I'm jumping up every two hours. My kids don't want to stay home with me, but I understand what they are going ...

A 33-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in what was believed to be a targeted slaying, the Sun Prairie Police Department said. Around 1:30 a.m., officers headed to the 400 block of South Bird Street for a report of a man being shot in an apartment complex parking lot , according to police. Sun Prairie police spokesman Jon Lothe said a “specific person of interest” in the homicide has been identified. It is the first homicide in the city since 2015. Lothe said several people who were at the scene when the shooting happened have been identified and were being interviewed by police with the help of the Dane County Sheriff ’s Office. He said investigators have received copies of the apartment building’s security camera footage and would be reviewing them. He is from Suffield, Connecticut. They earlier recovered the remains of Electronics Technician 3rd Class Kenneth Aaron Smith , 22, who the Navy listed as being from New Jersey. His mother said Smith grew up in Novi, Michigan, and moved to Norfolk, Virginia, as a teenager with his father. The military said five sailors were injured and 10 were missing following Monday's collision. The Navy said missing soldiers were from Missouri, Texas, Maryland, Ohio, New York, Connecticut and Illinois. The collision tore a hole in the ship's left rear hull and flooded adjacent compartments , including crew berths and machinery and communication rooms. (AP) — The man accused of plowing a car into a crowd protesting a white supremacist rally in Virginia had been photographed hours earlier carrying the emblem of one of the hate groups that participated in the event. Vanguard America on Sunday denied any association with the suspect, even as a separate hate group involved in Saturday’s rally pledged on social media to organize future events that would be “bigger than Charlottesville.” The mayor of Charlottesville and political leaders of all political stripes vowed to combat the hate groups and urged President Donald Trump to forcefully denounce the organizations that had promoted the protest against the removal of a Confederate statue.
