Sign-up for the Urban Milwaukee daily email River House Milwaukee’s newest luxury apartment complex is open for business. Residents have begun moving into the River House, a two- building apartment complex at 1785 N. Water St. consisting of 243 units. Developed by Atlanta- based Atlantic Realty Partners , the project marks the first entry into the city for the firm founded by two brothers originally from Whitefish Bay. The company, which has developed approximately 8,000 rental units across the country, has a handful of other developments in the Milwaukee area , including a cluster of buildings on W. State St. in Wauwatosa. I toured the complex in late January with property manager Alexis Criscimagna and Atlantic Realty Partners project manager Matthew Schossow . Criscimagna was upbeat, the first two units had residents and 17 leases were signed. The model units were recently finished and one floor a month was coming online in the first, six-story building. The second building will ...

Forest City sells its last lingering pieces of Tower City for $16 million to the K&D Group

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Forest City Realty Trust , Inc., passed the torch at Tower City Center on Thursday, selling off its final pieces of the mixed-use complex in the heart of downtown. With the sale of the Post Office Plaza and a nearby parking lot , Forest City - once downtown Cleveland's dominant landlord - finished a six-year-long exit from property ownership in the center city. The publicly traded company will stick around as a tenant, moving its headquarters and hundreds of workers from Terminal Tower to Key Tower in the spring. The K&D Group paid $15 million for Post Office Plaza , a 477,000-square- foot office building that is 55 percent vacant. In a separate transaction, K&D paid $1 million for a triangular parking lot next to the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel , west of Public Square. Doug Price, K&D's chief executive officer , confirmed the details during an interview late Thursday . "We think it's a real strategic purchase ," he said of Post...

Marina Bay boardwalk now twice as big

Developers of a Quincy apartment complex affected by fire earlier this year celebrated its opening of a bigger public boardwalk at Marina Bay recently . Hines, the real estate developer behind the complex, has expanded the boardwalk and brought two five-story buildings containing 352 luxury units, as well as a parking garage and 20,000 square feet of retail space, to Marina Bay, the multi-use waterfront development adjacent to Squantum Point Park . Advertisement The boardwalk has nearly doubled in size with the development of Meriel Marina Bay , the latest in a series of large apartment complexes to open in Quincy. The complex caught fire on June 4, but a project official said that the small portion of the property affected by the fire was repaired immediately and that the damage was minimal. Mayor Thomas Koch , officials from Callahan Construction Managers , and others were on hand Aug. 12 to cut the ribbon on the new boardwalk. Jill Terreri Ramos can be reached at jill.ramo...

Olympia to revise codes to allow for a variety of housing

Whitney and Luke Bowerman dream of building cottages on one of the few larger lots remaining in Olympia’s Eastside neighborhood. They want to leave the existing trees on the Fairview Street Southeast lot , and reflect the character of the neighborhood in their design. The cottages would join a new, three-bedroom house also designed to fit the area. But the city of Olympia has made it expensive to build cottages, the Bowermans said. They estimate that city fees alone will run $30,000 to $40,000 per cottage. And the cottages will be just between 500 and 800 square feet. “The impact fees for a 500-square-foot cottage are almost the same as for a single-family home,” Whitney Bowerman said. “But you can’t rent them for as much,” Luke Bowerman said. If changes aren’t made to reduce the costs, the Bowermans said, they might have to abandon the cottage idea and build a more traditional subdivision. Out of respect for the neighborhood, they don’t want to do that. Meanwhile, Olympia is poised...
