FESTUS • A new senior housing development has been approved for Brandon Wallace Way in Truman Village here. The City Council on Wednesday night approved a request from Jamaican Folly LLC to change the plan for the 4.28-acre property from retail/office/commercial to residential. The development on the southeastern edge of the property would include 36 single-story apartments in six buildings. This development, proposed by Patrick Werner and John Anselmo, would be for senior citizens and similar in style to the Sand Hills Place apartment complex west of the site, said Matt Clemens, public works director . An attempt last year to put a 60- unit apartment complex on the opposite side of Truman Village was thwarted after residents complained it was supposed to be villas. No one spoke against the current plan at the public hearing before the council vote.

Roughly 220 children in lower-income families in Bloomington qualify for but do not have access to affordable pre- kindergarten education . In an effort to change this, Alex Crowley, director of the city’s Economic and Sustainable Development Department , said a state-sponsored initiative, On My Way Pre-K pilot program, which provides funding to programs serving 4-year-olds from families with household incomes at or below 127 percent of the federal poverty level , is coming to Monroe County next year, and it is estimated it can help about 50 children. That begs the question: What can the city and others do to make sure no children who are eligible for pre-kindergarten are left out? If plans work out, the city will be gaining a new restaurant called the Spin-N-Win Cafe. During its meeting Aug. 7, the Highland City Council voted to increase the number of class D2 liquor licenses from 10 to 11 permits. A D2 license allows restaurants to operate video gaming terminals . The council also approved the issuance of the additional license to Surjuit “Sunny” Tut, the owner of Tut Properties Inc. and Highland Liquor and Food Mart, located at 201 Walnut St. In a letter to Mayor Joe Michaelis , Tut said he is in the process of negotiating with a chain food service provider in hopes of opening a restaurant called the Spin-N-Win Cafe. Tut said he originally wanted to open the restaurant out of his existing business. But he decided it would not provide enough space, so instead he purchased a property at 213 Walnut St. with the intent of tearing down a dilapidated home and garage on the property. District 4 Supervisor Jane Parker confirmed an agenda item is in the works with input from the Department of Social Services, the Monterey County Sheriff 's Office, Public Works and Environmental Health. The Alcoa Board of Commissioners got a bird’s- eye view Monday of the new detention pond , which is located in the curve where Hall Road meets Alcoa Highway , thanks to a stationary webcam the city has trained on the construction site. Tragedy strikes van crossing river Published on: Tuesday, August 15, 2017 Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian woman became the first casualty of the current inclement weather when the van she was travelling in with nine Japanese tourists was swept away by strong currents while crossing the Sungai Kg Lingan Lama in Kabang, Papar, Sunday night. The 34-year-old sustained serious injuries when she was pinned under the van in the 8.23pm incident and was pronounced dead at 11pm at the Papar Hospital, according to APM ( Civil Defence Force ). A team from the Civil Defence Force was deployed to the scene after being alerted by Papar for assistance in helping the trapped victims out of the vehicle. It took the team about one hour and 20 minutes to arrive at the scene which was by then only accessible to heavy vehicles due to rain which caused the route to be submerged.
