LAWRENCE — A man and woman who live 46 miles away in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, were among 43 people teams of detectives arrested on Wednesday during another targeted drug suppression sweep throughout the city.  Teams of local detectives, state troopers and federal agents descended on various neighborhoods in Lawrence in the third organized operation of its kind this summer.  Previously, 80 arrests were made in July and August during similar sweeps. (AP) — A murder charge has been filed against a 34-year-old man who walked into the Portland police station to report there was a dead body inside an apartment in the Goose Hollow neighborhood . Sgt. Chris Burley says investigators found a man's body inside the apartment Tuesday and determined it was a homicide. Paris James McConville was booked into jail. Court records don 't list an attorney to speak on his behalf. According to court documents, McConville told jailers he recently returned to Portland after being homeless in Pendleton, and the deceased man was a friend he has known for about 10 years. Police have not released the victim's name. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.

Luis Eudoro Valencia was charged with smuggling a Bengal tiger into the United States after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials found the furry cub lying on the floor of the passenger side of his car during an inspection around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Otay Mesa border crossing . "CBP officers are often faced with unusual situations," said Pete Flores, director of field operations for Customs and Border Protection in San Diego.
