Is Canadian Apartment Properties REIT a Buy After a Strong Q2?

Canadian Apartment Properties REIT  (TSX:CAR.UN) released its quarterly results earlier this month. I’ll look at how the company did, the strength of its financials, and if you should consider buying the stock. The company owns and operates residential rental properties , including apartments and townhomes, in many large urban centres in various locations across Canada. Although it’s predominantly in Canada, Canadian Apartment Properties has locations in Europe as well, specifically in Ireland and the Netherlands. Why AvalonBay Is Not In My 'DAVOS' Portfolio - AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE:AVB)

Image
I just finished my all-new DAVOS portfolio that includes the following best-in-class REITs: Digital Realty (DLR), American Tower (AMT), Ventas, Inc. (VTR), Realty Income (O), and Simon Property Group (SPG). As a reminder, the DAVOS REITs were picked because of their high-quality attributes and most importantly for their dividend repeatability. While these REITs do not represent all of my favorite picks, they embody a diversified basket that serve as a proxy for robust dividend growth in the REIT sector. I’ll be honest, the last pick was the hardest. It was easy for me to select DLR, VTR, O, and SPG – because these four REITs have scale, experience, and muscle – all essential elements of durability. However, I was torn between the last pick, debating most of my Saturday as to whether I would go with American Tower or AvalonBay (AVB). I was really leaning to go with AvalonBay, but I decided at the last minute to include American Tower . It was a tough call, but after reading this ar...

7 of Asia's most spectacular resort residences | Property Market

Image
By Diana Hubbell Travellers have long looked towards Asia – with its shimmering azure waters and near-limitless selection of palm-fringed white-sand beaches – in their search for paradise. Intrepid hippies put the area on the map as a tourist destination in the 1960s. The intervening years, meanwhile, have seen rustic bamboo beach shacks edged out by a growing phalanx of upscale hotels and resorts. Indeed, these days it is just as likely to be high- powered investors making for the region’s resort destinations as singlet-wearing backpackers and other holidaymakers.   Countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines, can ably cater to the most demanding of buyers, with sumptuous properties ranging from secluded island hideaways to palatial residences with easy access to first-class restaurants and highly developed transport infrastructure . TOLLING THE TYCOONS — Albanese calls for 'politically popular' pied-à-terre tax, by POLITICO New York’s Conor Skelding : Foreign "oligarchs" who own real estate in New York but don't live in the city should have to pay two or three times what they pay now in property taxes, Democratic mayoral candidate Sal Albanese said Wednesday. The "politically popular" new tax's revenue, which Albanese said would amount to billions, could then be put toward the development of affordable housing . "Look, there's a lot of money across the world that people want to outsource," he said during a news conference outside the gates of City Hall. "There's a lot of money there, and we can use that to build real affordable housing ." Mayor Bill de Blasio promised years ago to "take a look" at a pied-à-terre tax, but the proposal is opposed by many of the city's real estate interests . "They own Bill de Blasio , big real estat...
