CORAL GABLES, FL — City police were given a photo and description of an alleged Massachusetts murder suspect on Friday who may be hiding in the Coral Gables area . Cornel Bell is believed to be armed and possibly traveling in a stolen dark blue 2005 Ford pickup with Massachusetts plates . The 46-year-old Bell is wanted by Massachusetts State Police in connection with the Aug. 19 slaying of his girlfriend. "We're assisting their agency with whatever resources they need from us because they are a distance away," Officer Kelly Denham of the Coral Gables Police Department told Patch on Friday. Tragedy strikes van crossing river Published on: Tuesday, August 15, 2017 Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian woman became the first casualty of the current inclement weather when the van she was travelling in with nine Japanese tourists was swept away by strong currents while crossing the Sungai Kg Lingan Lama in Kabang, Papar, Sunday night. The 34-year-old sustained serious injuries when she was pinned under the van in the 8.23pm incident and was pronounced dead at 11pm at the Papar Hospital, according to APM ( Civil Defence Force ). A team from the Civil Defence Force was deployed to the scene after being alerted by Papar for assistance in helping the trapped victims out of the vehicle. All charges against Terrell Walton, one of two men accused of committing a double homicide in Aberdeen in June 2016, have been dropped, but police and prosecutors say they have not ended their pursuit of justice for the victims and their loved ones. "We're still working it as an open and active investigation," Lt. Will Reiber, a spokesperson for the Aberdeen Police Department , said Wednesday. Twenty-three charges filed against Walton, 31, of Aberdeen, were dropped Aug. 15, according to online court records . He had not been to trial. In January 2015, a massive fire in Edgewater, N.J., demonstrated that buildings with sprinkler systems are not always protected against fire. The blaze destroyed 240 residential apartments and displaced 500 people from the Edgewater Avalon apartment building . The fire began when a maintenance worker’s plumbing torch accidentally ignited wooden wall studs , and flames quickly spread throughout the structure. Fifteen minutes passed before workers called the fire department . In that time, the fire spread throughout combustible void spaces (between walls and floors) and soon engulfed the building. The Department of Motor Vehicles has been cracking down on the fraud by using updated facial recognition technology . Every time your photo is taken at the DMV, it is now run through the software. The photograph is compared not only to the last photo that was taken of you but to all the photos that have been taken at DMV offices across the state. The facial recognition technology uses 128 measurements to compare; different hair styles, glasses and other features that change over time do not prevent the technology from making matches. “About half of the people we identified were driving the roads while they were suspended or revoked under another name,” says Owen McShane, the Director for Investigations for NYS DMV. The 20 Westminster Ave. project is slated to cost $3,975,762. Key funding came from a new Massachusetts state program , Community- Scale Housing Initiative (CSHI), which contributed $320,000 to the Westminster project. This initiative is a new, joint pilot program from the Department of Housing and Community Development and state affordable housing finance agency MassHousing . The funds go towards the creation of smaller scale affordable housing projects . Arlington is one of the first communities to receive funding from the CSHI. “I am thrilled that our community has been awarded this grant to help increase the availability of affordable housing in Arlington,” state Sen. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A massive fire in Hagerstown has forced more than 70 people from their apartments Tuesday night . It started right after a thunderstorm rolled through. Residents say the fire started right after the building was hit by lightning, and they watched for 30 minutes while the fire department was unable to get enough water on the flames. “It was just horrific. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” said Shawn Lohr, who lives across from the complex. “We heard the lightning hit, but I thought it hit outside on the pavement, and then the next thing I know, the alarm went off,” said Roxie Vickers, who lives in the apartments. The State Fire Marshal ’s Office confirms the fire was caused by a lightning strike, and all residents of the apartment have been accounted for.
