Columbia Falls City Council Approves $3 Million Apartment Complex

Last week the Columbia Falls City Council approved the development of a new 18- unit apartment complex in downtown. The council gave the green light to Mick Ruis’ proposal, which is emerging as his latest local investment . The apartment complex , valued at an estimated $3 million, will replace the former DaVall Building at the corner of Fifth Street West and First Avenue West. Ruis, a prominent local developer and philanthropist, purchased the empty building two years ago and is replacing it with a three- story apartment complex . According to plans submitted to the city, the 22,000-square-foot complex will feature 12 two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units. There will be 18 parking spaces on the north side of the building. Ruis has purchased several pieces of property in Columbia Falls in recent years and is overseeing several redevelopment projects. Faced with numerous owners not picking up after their dogs when they poop on the grounds, the management at the Shasta View Apartments plans to start collecting the physical evidence to track down offending pets and their owners. Apartment manager Yvonne Martin said when they find unaccounted -for feces they will have it bagged up and shipped off for DNA testing. At the least, the testing would identify the dog breed. TEMECULA: Apartment complex still in play

New apartments could be on the way to a vacant lot in Temecula, potentially offering more options for renters. The Temecula City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 13, considered a project proposal for the construction of a 120-unit complex on the northeast corner of Mira Loma Drive and Rancho Vista Road . Approval of the complex required a General Plan amendment to allow for 16 units to be built per acre, which is double the amount previously allowed at that site. By 9 p.m., council members had not yet voted on the proposal for the Mira Loma Apartments . Public speakers both supported the project for its housing options and opposed it out of concerns about traffic and open space preservation . “We still have in place our growth management plan that indicates we start at the lower end of the density and move up,” Councilman Jeff Comerchero said of the exception to allow the complex. Planned southwest Longmont apartment complex draws ire

A proposed 276- unit apartment complex set to go on the southwest corner of Airport Road and Clover Basin Drive has surrounding Longmont homeowners worried about their home values as well as traffic and space for schoolchildren. The Renaissance Village apartment complex , being developed by Longmont- based company Actis LLC , would be housed in 16 three- story buildings spread over roughly 21 acres. The complex would feature a clubhouse, pool, pocket parks and pavilion, according to plans submitted to the city. There have been two neighborhood meetings between the developer and the community and the project will be on a planning and zoning committee meeting agenda once the city planning department staff completes its review. Kirk Christoffersen, a Clover Creek HOA board member , said the meetings did not go well at all and the community doesn't feel the developer is listening to them or responding to homeowner concerns. NORFOLK The housing market may be struggling, but apartment construction in Norfolk continues to boom. The City Council is expected to approve a rezoning today that will allow a 180-unit, $20. 7 million upscale apartment development called the Meadowood Apartments to be constructed off North Military Highway . It would be the seventh apartment complex that opened, received city approval or on which construction began in the past year. Moreover, two other apartment complexes have been proposed. Meadowood would be built on 7.7 acres currently zoned for industrial use on International Boulevard adjacent to a Kmart and the Park Crescent Apartments . Rents would top out at $1,450, said Taylor Franklin, vice president of multi family development for S.L. Nusbaum Realty . It would be a gated community, Franklin said. Bettendorf Fire Department responds to apartment fire

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC)- UPDATE: Bettendorf fire was dispatched to the 1800 block of Sutton Place at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived , the fire was burning through the roof of a two story apartment complex . The Bettendorf Fire Department had the fire under control at approximately 7:55 p.m. and was extinguished at 9 p.m. while firefighters monitored hot spots overnight . All occupants of the six apartment complex were removed, none of them were injured. A firefighter sustained minor injuries . The Red Cross assisted in accommodating the residents. There are no estimates yet for the apartment's extensive damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fall Start Seen For Route 120 Apartments

Lebanon— The apartment complex to be built behind the Element hotel on Route 120 in Lebanon moved has moved a step closer to reality as the developer has filed his plans and sought permission from the city to begin construction. Manchester developer Dick Anagnost filed a permit application with the Lebanon’s city planning department to begin construction on a $4 million, three- story apartment building . He hopes to be able to break ground on the project this fall and have it ready for occupancy next summer, according to Anagnost. The apartment building is the first in a planned 153- unit residential complex in Altaria Lebanon Park , a mixed commercial and residential development spanning 65 acres of which the 4-year-old Element hotel was the first phase. Anagnost expects the entire five- building apartment project to be completed by 2019 at a cost “all-in, probably $20 million to $30 million,” he said in an interview. Willow Springs Apartments will be located off of Bixler Avenue, north of US 70 and behind the now-closed Cattleman’s Steak House on Bataan Memorial West . The property is being developed by Dillon Mountain Enterprises , LLC. which is owned by Paul Curry and his son, Jared Curry. The Currys acquired the property in 2006 from a church which had plans to build on the site but opted to purchase a building in town instead. Construction on the 14.12-acre property will require the Currys to pave more than 1,000 feet of Bixler Avenue, one of the city’s oldest platted but undeveloped rights-of-way. Fire ravages apartment building in west Edmonton’s Callingwood area - Edmonton

A fire broke out at a west Edmonton apartment complex Thursday morning in the Callingwood area, where crews arrived  to find some residents on their balconies. Edmonton Fire Rescue said 40 firefighters were called to the Westridge Estates B apartment complex at 7611-172 St. just after 8 a.m. and arrived on scene within five minutes.The fire began in a third floor suite and quickly spread. Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the four- storey apartment building , which is owned by Boardwalk rentals.Third-floor- resident Kerry Upright said she woke up to fire alarms going off.“I heard screaming outside on the balcony,” she told Global News .“I went to the balcony and seen a guy almost jump off the balcony.” Story continues below She said she also saw smoke coming from his suite. Man Found Dead in Sunset Ridge Apartment Building

UPDATE: Officers were dispatched to the Sunset Ridge Apartment complex on the 2100 block of Koch Drive for a welfare check Tuesday night . While officers were knocking on the door they heard what they identified as a gunshot. The SWAT team was paged and responded to the apartment building . They entered the apartment and found a dead man. The incident is under further investigation and there is no danger to the public. The man's identity is not being released until he is identified and his family has been notified. There is no evidence this death is of a suspicious nature. (Photo: KHOU) PEARLAND, Texas – A two- alarm fire swept through a Pearland apartment building overnight Saturday , damaging all 16 units inside. Fire crews from six different cities responded to the blaze around 2 a.m. Saturday at the Whispering Winds apartment complex in Pearland. Officials say the fire started in the center of the complex and quickly spread to all 16 units. They say 12 of those units have fire damage, and all of them have water and smoke damage. Authorities say one person suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. American Red Cross is helping residents find temporary housing . The cause of the fire is under investigation. Jeremy Lett, 28, was shot by TPD officer David Stith , who was responding to reports of a burglary at the Shadow Ridge Apartments on West Tharpe Street around 8 p.m. Wednesday. After Stith spotted and confronted a man matching the burglary suspect's description, the two men were involved in a physical altercation during which Stith shot Lett , according to TPD spokesman David Northway . The burglary was reported at the complex, but Northway did not know which apartment. Stith, who was not injured, has been placed on administrative leave with pay following the incident, which is protocol when an officer fires his weapon in the line of duty.
