'One landlord said he wouldn't take anyone from a city'

The bachelor of science undergraduate at UCC has been looking for suitable accommodation since March and only recently, thanks to Twitter, found a place near the campus. Despite her six-month search, Ms Stapleton considers herself very lucky. But it was an ordeal she wouldn't want to repeat. Along with encountering rental scams , filthy conditions and ludicrously expensive rents to share a house or apartment with strangers, she also encountered some oddball prospective landlords . "There would be some very weird vibes from some landlords. There was one who did the whole interview in Irish, even though I only have Irish from school. On top of that, he wouldn't take anyone who came from a city," she said.
