UPDATE (WKOW) -- A resident of an apartment building that caught on fire Monday morning is safe, but left everything behind her. "I never expected this to happen," said displaced resident LeAnn Berghoff , who woke up from screams outside her apartment and found her bedroom filling up with smoke. "I looked out the window and I just heard people screaming , get out, get out!" Berghoff says she had no time to think, breaking through her bedroom window to escape. She left with just the clothes on her back. Her roommate, Paul Pankau, was working at the time of the fire but hurried back home after he received a call from Berghoff. "I knew she wasn't lying [about the fire], cause I could hear the sincerity and scared in her voice, she was shocked," said Pankau, recalling his conversation on the phone. As devastation sets in, Berghoff says she's trying to moving forward. "I got to get a new place to stay, I got to buy all new clothes, all new shoes...

(Red Oak) -- A Red Oak youth is accused of setting fire to a house earlier this week. Red Oak Police say the 11-year-old juvenile was charged Friday with reckless use of fire in connection with the blaze destroying the residence at 211 West Reed Street Wednesday evening . Charges were filed following a joint investigation by police, the Red Oak Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal 's Office. Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce tells KMA News the first unit responded to the fire, which originated in a garage attached to the west side of the house, at approximately 7:15 p.m. "The first arriving fire department person got there at 7:19," said Bruce. "They reported heavy fire involvement within that garage. It actually extended into the two-story residence there at 211 West Reed Street ." DURHAM – A fire that began after 12 noon Monday appeared to affect all 20 units of an apartment building before firefighters could get the blaze under control. No injuries were reported and all 40 of the building’s occupants were accounted for, according to the Durham Fire Department . In all, the fire displaced 30 residents as the building has been deemed a total loss with fire or smoke and water damage affecting all of the units. The fire took place at the Royal Oaks Apartments  on Mayfair Street near the Sam’s Club and Target on 15-501—north of the exit for Martin Luther King , Jr. Parkway. The Durham fire department responded to a 12:30 p.m. call. Seven fire trucks and 50 firefighters reported to the scene. (WMTV) - The Sun Prairie Fire Department was called to an apartment fire located in the 600 block of Schiller Street on Monday around 4 a.m. According to the Sun Prairie Fire Department , firefighters arrived to a 16 unit apartment building with a lot of smoke showing. They found an active fire and began to put it out immediately. All the residents had evacuated when they arrived and residents from 14 of the 16 units are displaced due to this fire and the American Red Cross and Sun Prairie School District are providing support. Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighters have contained a 3-alarm fire at an apartment building in Uptown Dallas. The fire started at about 11:30 Wednesday morning on the 3200 block of Hall Street. Crews said they could see smoke and fire coming from a third-floor balcony when they arrived. Once they extinguished the blaze, they found a dog inside the building. Paramedics attempted to save the dog with oxygen, but were unsuccessful and the dog died. No other injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to two different units, but at least 10 additional units sustained water and/or smoke damage. An unknown number of residents are displaced due to the damages. The American Red Cross was notified to assist them. Fire officials determined the fire was accidental. It was caused from an improperly discarded a cigarette. Officials say the fire started in the center of the complex and quickly spread to all 16 units. They say 12 of those units have fire damage, and all of them have water and smoke damage. SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A fire at the Clarendon Heights Apartments gutted several apartments and forced city firefighters to signal a second alarm and call for support. Firefighters were called just before 8 p.m. Wednesday to building 1300 at the apartment complex on Ivy Ridge Road , between Thurber Street and East Brighton Avenue . Crews arrived on the scene and found flames bursting through the roof of the building. More units were called for almost immediately. Emergency vehicles clogged the street leading up to the complex. Firefighters hit the blaze with an aerial ladder truck and several hose lines. The fire was knocked down before 9 p.m., though small flames and sparks could still be seen in the third-floor units that suffered the most damage. CASTLETON, Ind. (March 17, 2015)-- Two people had to be rescued from their third floor apartment after they got trapped inside when the building when up in flames. It happened around 9:30 p.m. at the Autumn Woods Apartments on Woodmoss Lane, not far from Allisonville and 91st Street in the Castleton area. When Indianapolis firefighters arrived at the scene, they heard the the residents in their mid-20s screaming for help from a third floor window, while heavy fire and smoke poured from the building. CEDAR SPRINGS -- Tenants inside an apartment home at 40 Maple Street escaped unharmed after fire ripped through their building early Monday , severely damaging the large home. Fire crews responded at 2:55 a.m. to the home, which contained four or five apartments, Cedar Springs Fire Chief Jerry Gross said. Fire was burning heavily in the back half of the home when firefighters arrived and crews had trouble containing the flames because of open spaces in the older home. Firefighters eventually used a backhoe to tear down part of the backside of the home as they attacked the fire. (TNS) - Torrential rains fell overnight causing historic flooding in south Kansas City , Mo., and leading to water rescues and evacuations. As many as 9 inches of rain fell since Monday. Early Tuesday firefighters rescued a woman stranded in a tree at 103rd Street and Wornall Road when Indian Creek flooded the area. That creek, which saw record flooding last month, set a new record of 28. 22 feet overnight . A family of seven were trapped on top of their roof after rushing floodwaters surrounded their home at 155th Street and Kenneth Road. The Overland Park Fire Department have been in contact via phone with the family of three adults and four children and their pets. Because they are not in immediate danger and the water levels around them are receding, crews will allow those water levels to drop to safer levels before evacuating the family. Update: Investigators suspect arson in Stonebrook Apartments fire GRAND RAPIDS — Residents fled to safety Sunday night as firefighters were able to quickly put out a fire that caused extensive damage to an apartment on the city’s Northeast Side. The fire department was called to the Stonebrook Apartments , off Plymouth Avenue NE between Michigan and Leonard streets, just after 10:30 pm. Smoke was reported coming from the apartment when the first units arrived. Apartment residents were out of the building before fire units arrived . No one was injured. The American Red Cross was called in to help the family displaced by the blaze. Fire officials were on the scene for several hours looking into the cause.

CONROE, Texas- A 2-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Conroe destroyed 8 units late Saturday night , officials said.  According to the Conroe Fire Department , they responded to a lighting strike at Autumn Woods Apartments located in the 2000 block of Plantation Drive around 9:50 p.m.  Upon arrival, heavy fire was seen coming from a roof of an apartment building and a second alarm was requested. They were able to get the fire under control after about an hour and limit the damage to half of the apartment building.  No injuries were reported. Officials said eight units of the 16 in the building were destroyed by the fire.  The American Red Cross responded to scene to help provide shelter for the building's occupants.  The fire department is undergoing an investigation into the cause of the fire. Lightning may have caused a fast moving apartment fire that injured two firefighters and destroyed 24 units in Irving on Saturday evening.   According to Irving Assistant Fire Chief Rusty Wilson , the first call about the fire came into emergency dispatch at 5:54 p.m.  By the time firefighters arrived at the Eagle Crest Apartments at 3810 Esters Road, flames were shooting through the roof. Two firefighters were injured. Their condition and names have not been released. "One was injured from a fall,"  Assistant Chief Wilson said. "A second one was transported because of burns."
