UPPER EAST SIDE — A woman claiming to be a psychic stole nearly $10,000 in jewelry from an Upper East Sider as part of a scam to "cleanse" the valuables of evil spirits, police said. The victim contacted the suspect July 28 and asked her to come to her East 83rd Street apartment . When the so-called psychic arrived around 1:40 p.m., she told the victim to give her jewelry so that she could cleanse the items of evil spirits, promising to return the goods a week later, police said. The psychic never returned with the jewelry, which totaled $9,950 and included a $5, 000 gold necklace , a $3,000 pair of white gold earrings , five bangles worth $200, a Gucci sterling silver watch worth $500, an $800 amethyst ring, one sterling silver crystal hoop earring worth $175, and various earrings totaling $275, according to the NYPD. Local News LUBBOCK, TX - Lubbock Police said that another gunshot victim came forward on Tuesday related to a shooting incident on Monday afternoon. At about 2:30 Monday afternoon, the Lubbock Police Department received a call about gunshots in the area of 2100 Avenue O.  An officer was nearby and heard another gunshot near 24th Place and Avenue N. The officer found a 35-year-old woman who had been shot in the arm.  Police said she had “moderate injuries.” Police said Abrean Watkins , 22, was arrested on an unrelated charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. HAYWARD, Calif. -- A Hayward police officer shot a woman Tuesday night and she later died from her injuries. It happened on Foothill Boulevard and Grove Way at the Summerwood apartments . The Hayward police were called by another police agency to conduct a welfare check on a woman around 7 p.m. According to the Hayward police , the 62-year-old woman had made several 911 calls before they arrived. They went to the woman's second story apartment , spoke with her at her apartment and displayed a handgun in a threatening manner. The police say that's when officers retreated to the parking lot of the complex, while telling the woman to drop the weapon. They say she advanced towards officers and that's when one officer fired his weapon. Columbus police said officers were called just before 11 p.m. about a domestic situation in the 4400 block of Shoupmill Drive in the Wellington Way apartment complex off Appian Way, north of Morse Road and just east of Interstate 270. Police said Joseph Delay, who appeared agitated and belligerent, was holding a knife and quickly began approaching officers who arrived at the scene. Police said Delay ignored officers' orders to drop the knife, and after two failed attempts to use a Taser on him, one of the officers fired a gun at him. Delay, 35, was shot twice by the officer, once in the right knee exiting his right thigh and once in the right hand. An Oxford University worker has been charged with murder after a man's body was discovered in an apartment with more than 40 stab wounds . Andrew Warren, 56, a senior treasury assistant at the institution's Somerville College, is accused alongside Professor Wyndham Lathem , 42, of murdering Trenton Cornell -Duranleau. Sanford police Sgt . Nigel Price heard screams when he got to Stonebrook apartments on Tuesday. Dogs in a third-floor apartment were killing a woman, witnesses screamed. He broke into a run and raced past several people who were injured and bleeding. "I could hear what sounded like several dogs attacking something," he wrote in a police report. "I could see a large amount of blood on the ground, leading into the apartment and on the door of the apartment." Price unholstered his gun and spotted five pit bulls attacking a person — he initially couldn't tell whether it was a man or woman — on the floor in a hallway. The victim was sitting while one dog bit her arms, legs and upper body, he wrote. He fired his gun, hoping it would stop the attack. It didn't. BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — The Latest on the Spain attacks (all times local): 5:15 a.m. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has asked people to pray for a young Australian boy who is missing after a vehicle attack on a popular Barcelona promenade that killed 13 people. Turnbull said Saturday that the boy's mother was badly injured and is in a hospital following Friday's attack at the Las Ramblas promenade . Turnbull says the boy's family is searching for him. He did not release the boy's name. Turnbull says: "All of us as parents know the anguish his father is going through, and his whole family is going through, as they rush to seek to find him in Barcelona."
