MADISON, Wis. - Community leaders on Madison’s west side are hoping to silence gunshots with a show of unity.

The “Stop the Violence, Save Our Children” March will be held Saturday in response to a string of violent events in the Meadowood Neighborhood.

The march, organized by Club TNT, is expected to attract about 400 people. Six area churches including the Good Shepherd Church and Our Redeemer Church will be participating.

Pastor Joe Brosius from Good Shepherd Church said it’s important for the community to take a stand, because children in the neighborhood are being negatively affected by gun violence.

“It's impacting them a lot more than I think we give credit to,” Brosius said. “It's stuff that I never grew up with and most adults in Madison never dreamed of growing up with or worrying about… that a bullet is going to come through your window."

On April 25, a 6-year-old child living on Russett Road was almost shot after a bullet came through the front window of an apartment.

The following month, on May 23, Madison police responded to shots fired at a car near Westbrook Lane and Raymond Road.

Police also reported a woman was injured on July 10 after her car window was shot at on McKenna Boulevard and Raymond Road.

Two weeks later, on July 25, a man was fatally shot on the 2000 block of Adderbury Lane.

Saturday’s march will start at Our Redeemer Church on Raymond Road at 11 a.m. Participants will walk to Our Redeemer Church on McKenna Boulevard.

There’s a big demand for more affordable housing in Charlotte, where rents and home prices have shot up much faster than wages over the past few years.
