Man shoots into Downtown Long Beach apartment, then surrenders, police say

Police arrested a man suspected of firing a single gunshot into an apartment building in Downtown Long Beach Monday night, according to authorities.

Nobody was hurt by the gunfire, police said.

The suspected gunman surrendered to officers after they surrounded his apartment in the 500 block of W. 3rd Street, which is near Magnolia Avenue, police said.

Police first headed to the scene around 8 p.m. after getting reports of shots fired in the area, Long Beach Police Department spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

At the scene, authorities discovered a single round was fired from a third-floor landing into an apartment. Police then surrounded an apartment where they believed the gunman was, Johnson said.

Around 9:25 p.m., the man came out and was arrested without any problems, according to the department.

Police found a handgun and ammunition inside the apartment, Johnson said.
