Renters in Atlanta seek high-end amenities, sense of community

Image
Avalon in Alpharetta features high -end apartments above retail shops. JONATHAN PHILLIPS / SPECIAL The average rent in metro Atlanta is on the rise. The most expensive rentals are in neighborhoods like Buckhead, Lenox and Lullwater where average costs are between $1,612 and $1,712. Atlanta area residents seeking lower rents should head to neighborhoods like Chosewood Park, Peoplestown or Lakewood Heights where the average rent of $650 falls well below the Atlanta average of $1,203 per month, according to data from rentcafe.com . While rental costs have gone up, they haven’t gone up as much as housing prices and rent in Atlanta is still relatively affordable compared to other metro areas . But for many renters, cost is only part of the equation when seeking a place to live.  Rent (85%),  location (81%) and community environment (49%) are among the top factors that renters look for according to new data from Village Green’s National Renter Profile . In the Atlanta metro area , 68% of r

The Overlook At Westridge Apartments - 19 Photos - Apartments - 600 SW Kenyon St, Highland Park, Seattle, WA - Phone Number

7 600 SW Kenyon St Seattle , WA 98106 (206) 763-9982 It's The Overlook at Westridge. There is no "B" in there (if someone can fix, that might help) Lived there for a year in a top-floor 2 bedroom. It was recently remodeled when we moved in early '08. Granite counters, SS appliances (although cheap ones), nice cabinetry, w/d in unit. We liked it very much. Although the rent is a little high for the area, ours was $1400. The location is very good if you're working downtown, but don't take the bus (riding through SODO sucks and takes an hour). The landscaping is well taken care of, the maintenance is good and the front office worked well with us. We paid rent late one time and they let it go after a little convincing (else would have received a higher rating). Parking can also be a pain. And when it snows, you'll miss work because of the Kenyon St. hill. The neighborhood I guess can be a little sketchy, but we never had any problems. Although White Center

What inspired you to go abroad? I was inspired to go abroad after attending a study abroad fair at my university. I always knew studying abroad was an option, but I had always kind of looked past it, thinking it was too expensive or just not possible for me. But in my second year of college I walked through the study abroad fair and after talking to some of the representatives of different programs, I realized I needed to be a part of the experience. I had never left the United States and I knew I wanted to change that. The view while walking uphill to Acropolis in Athens, Greece Why did you choose CIEE? I chose the CIEE Global Institute Rome Open Campus because of my love for Roman history and art and my past experiences with CIEE. I was lucky enough to go abroad in January 2016 for three weeks with CIEE in Seville, Spain and after such a successful experience with the program, I chose to go abroad for four months in Rome. What was your favorite part about Rome? Where does one beg

He hopes to offer a creative exploration of urbanisation and living environments in east London today . They are so every day that, over time, they become invisible t

Parents of Student Murdered by Maintenance Man Sue Apartment Complex

He pleaded guilty to murder late last year, now the case of a maintenance worker who killed a Blinn student is back in court. The parents of 20-year-old Jenna Verhaalen are suing the Bryan apartment complex where she was killed. Verhaalen was strangled at the Autumn Woods Apartments in 2008, by 27-year-old maintenance worker Jeremiah Rosser . The suit claims Autumn Woods ignored complaints made about Rosser. Specifically, a complaint they claim Jenna made to Rosser's boss, when he entered her apartment while she was in the shower. The suit alleges the complex's negligence led to Jenna's death. Attorneys for Autumn woods said management had no reason to believe Rosser was a risk. However, that's not what the complex's corporate office told News Three in 2008. Back then, a spokesperson said Jenna complained to the maintenance supervisor about Jeremiah Rosser , but never filed a complaint with the office. Rosser quit his job at Autumn Woods several day

In our opinion: Statutory changes may be needed for fireworks in Utah

There will be efforts on Capitol Hill to review current laws on the use of fireworks after several episodes of property damage caused by wayward pyrotechnics during the July holiday season . While home fireworks displays are a cherished tradition for many families, there are good reasons to weigh their harm versus their celebratory benefits. On the minus side, they cause significant damage by starting fires and contribute to poor air quality . Some military veterans afflicted with PTSD say they can be nerve-wracking, families with infants report restless nights and pet owners talk about jittery animals. There are laws governing the time, manner and use of fireworks in Utah, but they are notoriously hard to enforce. Some aficionados choose to blatantly disregard time constraints , and neighborhood explosions at 2 a.m. are hardly conducive to public tranquility. Rep. Marie Poulson, D- Cottonwood Heights , has opened a legislative file on the matter after constituent complaints and

Nice apartment - Review of Xclusive Clover Creek Hotel Apartments LLC, Dubai

I booked a room at this hotel via laterooms.com back in August for a stay lasting 3 nights from New Years Eve. On arrival at the hotel following a long, tiring journey at 8:30pm, the reception staff bluntly told me that as I was so late, my room had been cancelled and had now been allocated to another guest so I would have to make other arrangements. I was stunned at this news and questioned how they could do this when I had a confirmed reservation and had clearly stated when booking my arrival time. They stated that they had tried to call me at 6pm when another person had wanted the room and they were unable to contact me so assumed I no longer wanted it. It didn't appear to matter to them that I was 36,000 feet in the air at the time and I had no reception! As it was obvious I was going to get nowhere with the least hospitable workers in the hospitality industry I have ever had the misfortune to come across, I asked whether I could leave my bag there while I try to find altern

Vagrants turn luxury building into homeless haven

Forget about borrowing a cup of sugar — can you spare a couple of bucks? Working- class Bronx families thought they had landed the dream of affordable rents at a spanking-new apartment complex — until busloads of rowdy homeless people moved in and turned the building into a living nightmare. “I feel like I’ve been scammed. They weren’t upfront to let us know what kind of building this was going to be,” said Omar Cooke, 38, who pays $962 for a one-bedroom apartment at 1802 Crotona Ave. in Crotona Park. Months after the tenants signed their leases, the developer moved homeless families into 44 of the building’s 55 units. Now the rent-paying residents say they’re plagued by fights, threats and panhandling, and they fear for the safety of themselves and their children. All visitors — including the regular tenants — have to be patted by security. And when the shelter staff leave the building between 6 p.m. Friday night and 8 a.m. Monday, all hell breaks loose , Cooke says. “On Friday wh

Woman charged with murder a year after shooting boyfriend in head

As quadriplegic Lavatus McCullough ’s health took a turn for the worse last month, prosecutors moved to up the charges against the woman who had shot him in the head in Logan Square nearly a year earlier. Last week, after a year on a ventilator, McCullough slipped into a coma and died, prompting Cook County prosecutors to again upgrade the charges against his 29-year-old girlfriend, Samantha Santiago, to first-degree murder from attempted murder . Santiago, who had been held in jail in lieu of $950,000 bail on the attempted murder charge , was ordered held without bail at a hearing Thursday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse . She had previously been charged with aggravated battery in connection with the shooting. Despite his injuries, McCullough had on multiple occasions identified his former girlfriend, Santiago, as the person who shot him. McCullough and Santiago were dating, and Santiago’s 9-year-old son called McCullough his step-father, Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santin
