He hopes to be able to break ground on the project this fall and have it ready for occupancy next summer, according to Anagnost. The apartment building is the first in a planned 153- unit residential complex in Altaria Lebanon Park , a mixed commercial and residential development spanning 65 acres of which the 4-year-old Element hotel was the first phase. And even though construction on the project has not yet beg

Congrats to long time reader Yale Fox , the CEO of RentLogic, for the writeup in Bloomberg. I totally believe there to be interest in dirty laundry being aired about apartments (units & buildings) a tenant is about to spend thousands of dollars a month to live in. That said, I’m not without concerns on the business side… Bloomberg picks up on my core question: The next challenge will be to find a business model that allows Rentlogic to wring a profit out of its system. The answer: … Read More »

Legal battle over Woodbury's development fees could echo across the metro

See more of the story Growing suburbs’ strategy of paying for new roads and other infrastructure by charging builders fees for development could be upended by a legal challenge before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. A developer’s lawsuit against Woodbury arguing the city’s roadway fee on new subdivisions is illegal has attracted competing court filings from the metro area homebuilders association and the League of Minnesota Cities . At issue is whether developers or taxpayers should bear the brunt of road projects that are needed to accommodate growth but are located outside of a new subdivision. “I’d say this is a landmark case,” said David Siegel, executive director of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities. “Probably one of those rare cases that comes along every decade or so that we think has really powerful ramifications across the Twin Cities.” Woodbury charges developers a “major roadway assessment” fee to help cover road improvements outside of a subdivision, such

New Towson apartments will be close to everything

April 28, 2001 | By Andrew A. Green | Andrew A. Green,SUN STAFF A developer is to break ground Tuesday on an apartment complex in downtown Towson that Baltimore County officials hope will demonstrate to other builders that suburbanites are interested in the urban idea of living close to work, shops and entertainment. Residents of the $20 million, 264- unit Dulaney Crescent apartment building will be able to walk to the Super Fresh without crossing a major street. They'll be closer to the Hecht's in Towson Town mall than Hecht's is to Nordstrom. Based on the surrounding traffic patterns , it will be more trouble to drive to the barber shop and dry cleaners than to walk. As sprawl has become a dirty word in recent years, the idea of creating compact communities that unify living, working and playing has become the urban planning vogue , in contrast to much post- World War II development that segregated houses from offices from shops. "I think [the apartments are]

Shadowy Being Lurking About In Chicago's Wicker Park

I received the following account (Weds. August 23, 2017) from a witness who lives in the vicinity of N. Leavitt St. and W. Le Moyne St. in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL: I guess I'm reluctant to speak about it because I know what I saw; it's hard to believe that it's real. I'm still feeling pretty uncomfortable . I can provide my number if necessary for you. I am not trying to be difficult, but I am just still shocked by everything. On Monday, August 21st, around 8:20 pm (Central Time) I was on a phone call for about forty minutes. I took the call in my bedroom in my apartment. I am in a third-floor unit, the window in my bedroom overlooks the backyard of the building next to me. To the right of this window, about 5-6 feet away is the neighbor's roof, it is not close enough for anyone to reach my window unaided. There is no balcony or ladder up to my window as well. About mid-way through the phone call, out the window, which was to my right, (with the
