Affordable Apartments To Replace Auditorium On Michigan School For The Blind Campus

On Thursday, Lansing will tear down an old auditorium to make way for affordable apartment units

Later today, Lansing mayor Virg Bernero will help trigger a transformation on the campus of the former Michigan School for the Blind.

Sometime after 10:00 a.m., workers will demolish an auditorium building that’s sat vacant for more than 20 years!

On that site, Indianapolis based The Whitsett Group will build a new 4-story, 72-unit apartment complex.. most will be designated for affordable housing.

The $12.5 million dollar project is funded partially by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

In June, Delhi Township opened a 66-unit apartment complex with affordable housing for families, veterans and the disabled.

Prestwick Village was built on the site of a former mobile home park in Holt.
