Anthony Julmisse, CU Buffs cornerback, arrested on domestic violence allegations

A Colorado Buffaloes sophomore cornerback accused of trying to push a woman down a stairwell has been arrested on allegations of assault, harassment and domestic violence on the eve of fall camp.

Head coach Mike MacIntyre said he suspended Anthony Julmisse, 19, indefinitely, and pointed out in a statement that he immediately reported the allegations to the University of Colorado's Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance.

"We will determine any further disciplinary action after receiving more information," MacIntyre said in a statement. "I am very troubled by these allegations, as they do not represent the values of our university and our football program."

MacIntyre's acknowledgment that he reported the allegations to the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance comes after he was ordered to make a $100,000 donation to a domestic violence support group after he, and other top CU officials, failed to report domestic violence allegations against a now-former coach, Joe Tumpkin, to that office.

Boulder County Jail records show that Julmisse was taken into custody at 11:24 a.m. Thursday. His bond was set at $1,000 and his next court date was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 1 during a Boulder County Jail court appearance Friday.

Julmisse is facing charges of third-degree assault, two counts of physical harassment and domestic violence. Fall football camp opens Saturday.

According to an arrest affidavit warrant, a woman alleges Julmisse grabbed her arm, dragged her down the hallway and tried to push her down the stairs when she confronted him about his other girlfriend this past Sunday.

The affidavit reveals that CU police were dispatched to a disturbance at 9:55 p.m. Sunday at the Bear Creek Apartments on campus at 3355 Apache Road. A woman explained to police that she went to Julmisse's apartment at about 8:30 p.m. to confront him about another girlfriend.

She said they began verbally arguing on their walk down the hall to the laundry room, and she told him, "I hope you and your girlfriend are happy," before returning to her car.

But then she knocked on Julmisse's door a second time because "she had more things on her mind she wanted to tell Julmisse," including a request that he leave her alone, according to the document.

The woman said that's when Julmisse grabbed her arm, dragged her down the hallway and tried to push her down the stairs.

She told police she did not want to press charges and that she did not really want to report it if her name was going to be made public. (CU police spokesman Scott Pribble said that, under Colorado law, police agencies are required to take action in domestic violence cases.)

When police talked to Julmisse that night, he said he and the woman had dated for one to two months in 2016, but terminated the relationship and had become friends. The woman told police they had dated from November 2016 to April 2017, at which point the relationship was "on again, off again."

Julmisse told an officer that he believed she intended to enter his room and he was concerned because his current girlfriend was inside. He said he did not want a fight to ensue between the two. She denied wanting to enter his room.

He said he "escorted (her) down the hallway via his grasping her, with his right hand, upon her left lower forearm area after she failed to comply with his request to leave the area, especially considering her loud and disruptive verbal outburst."

A resident in the building told police he "heard a female yelling 'at the top of her lungs.'"

A true sophomore from Plantation, Fla., Julmisse is listed atop the depth chart at one of the cornerback spots. He had been expected to compete for a starting role this season.

Last season, Julmisse played in all 14 games and saw action on offense, defense and special teams. He was recruited as a wide receiver before moving to defense last fall.

In 2016, Julmisse played 53 snaps on defense, recording three tackles and an interception. Also the Buffs' primary kickoff returner, he averaged 22.6 yards on 17 returns.
