Police investigate fatal shooting in Sun Prairie

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) -- After a man was shot and killed in an apartment complex parking lot in Sun Prairie Sunday morning, police say investigators have identified several people they believe were present at the shooting -- including a specific person of interest.

According to police, officers responded to the 400 block of South Bird Street around 1:30 a.m., where they found a 33-year-old man with fatal injuries.

Reva McFarlane, a first responder who has lived at Rolling Prairie for 11 years, was awoken by the sound of gunfire.

"I thought my neighbors were shooting fireworks ... and I heard it," she says. "It was right outside my bedroom window."

Neighbor Connie Walton says it was scary incident in a complex she says houses many children -- including hers.

"My kid heard the shots. She's been up all night. [McFarlane's] kids as well. It's traumatic," says Walton.

Sun Prairie police say they do not believe this was a random act.

The homicide investigation is ongoing.
