Brookdale Senior Living : Wake Up! thrills audience at Brookdale Senior Living

On August 15, the residents of Brookdale Senior Living were treated to opening night of the recent release of their movie Wake Up!. The residents' film was entered into a nationally sponsored Film Festival Competition. The subject matter was "dispelling the negative myths of aging." The actors were competing with Brookdale Communities throughout the United States. Friends, families, staff and lucky guests were treated to a star studded evening of fabulous acting, incredible cinematography, and, of course, popcorn, cake and "Brookdale Bubbly!" "I was thrilled by the premiere of our first film, Wake Up! Our enthusiastic director, Cyndy Sanders, proved her salt and was truly worthy of an Oscar!" said Wilhelmina Edwards, who was the main cinematographer and supporting actor. Grace Mayer added, "We all enjoyed watching it, and those in it really had fun." The movie plot is a dream sequence filmed in black and white and in color. It begins with actors complaining and whining about all the common misconceptions about aging. The Rooster crows and the star, Pauline Grubb wakes up and exits her apartment. Suddenly the color appears and then the real events of life at Brookdale are shown: fun with friends, engaging activities, singing and fellowship. The film ends with Pauline playing the piano with a group of her friends singing. At the end of the song she turns to the camera and says, "I am so glad I woke up from that bad dream!" Although the film did not grab any national acclaim, it surely scored well here at home. The entire film was done on an IPAD and had the input of a great number of residents. Just goes to show you, aging is no barrier to fun.© Copyright 2017, The Columbia Star, All Rights Reserved., source Newspapers
