Man charged with several felonies after standoff in north Columbia - News - Columbia Daily Tribune

Columbia Police arrested Christopher Latrell Moore, 35, of Columbia after a standoff Sunday evening in north Columbia. Moore was a suspect in an assault with a gun that happened early Sunday morning in the city.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Bryana Larimer confirmed Moore's name late Sunday night in a news release.

The release also said Moore was arrested on the following felony charges: Two counts of rape in the first degree; two counts of sodomy in the first degree; armed criminal action; burglary; failure to register with a bond of $5,000; tampering with physical evidence; unlawful possession of a concealable firearm and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Larimer said Moore allegedly broke into a home while armed with a gun at 3:52 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Old 63 North in Columbia. A female was injured during that incident. Larimer said it was not a shooting. She did not yet have specific details regarding the victim’s injuries.

Police received information the suspect was in an apartment on the 700 block of West Cunningham Drive and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Larimer said CPD called in the Special Weapons and Tactics, or SWAT, team because the man had forced his way into the home on Old 63 North and was believed to be armed.

“It rose to the level of needing the SWAT team,” she said.

Police arrived on scene at 2:46 p.m. Sunday but did not find the suspect in the apartment. Police later were informed the suspect was in a different apartment across the street.

Police used the intercom system on the SWAT BearCat vehicle to call Moore's name and order him to come out of the apartment. Officers said they were in the process of obtaining a search warrant.

The police crime negotiators contacted the man but the suspect did not respond, Larimer said. After receiving a search warrant, police used a battering ram tool to bust open the front door of a unit in the Country Air Apartments complex. The SWAT team sent a small robot inside the apartment while still calling for the man to come outside.

At about 7:40 p.m., Moore walked out with his hands up and laid down on the ground. Officers arrested him and searched the apartment.

Larimer said nearby apartments were not evacuated while police were in the area. The CPD K9 unit, Boone County Sheriff's Department and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper also assisted. The 700 block of Cunningham Drive is in the county’s jurisdiction but Larimer said CPD led the arrest because the original incident occurred in Columbia.
