GREENSBORO — Police confirmed today a teen pulled from a pool Sunday did not survive. The condition of a toddler pulled from the water the same day is unclear.

A 13-year-old was pulled out, unresponsive, from a pool at Stonesthrow Apartment Homes at 3501 Farmington Drive about 12:10 p.m., said Det. Mike Matthews with Greensboro police. The apartment complex is off South Holden Road.

The teen was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where he died, Matthews said.

Police and emergency officials received a second call about a child in the water at 4:10 p.m., Matthews said. A 3-year-old boy was in the pool at Ridgeview Apartments, at 305 Edwards Road. Matthews said the toddler was taken to the hospital in “grave condition.”

On Wednesday, it was not known if the child was still alive, Matthews said.

Police did not disclose the name of either child and would not comment if anyone was supervising in either instance.

“Both cases are still under investigation regarding the circumstances,” Matthews said.

He encouraged parents to be cautious with children, and said even in the best circumstances, things can happen in an instant.

“Things can happen so quickly, especially around water,” Matthews said.
