Energy Savings Add Up At Clover Creek Apartments
July 14, 1985
Saving energy--heating and air-conditioning costs--is achieved several ways in the all-electric apartments, including roof insulation rated at a virtual maximum of R-30. ``This is better than the average single family home,`` said AHW project planner Roberta Cappello.
``Where Clover Creek really shines,`` Cappello said, ``is its thermal-insulated windows and sliding glass doors. All thermal glass is 5/8-inch thick instead of the usual 1/2-inch. And door and window frames have an item not usually found in apartments--a thermal break--to keep cold air out.``
Thick insulation and masonry construction also are effective in absorbing noise.
A last reason for quality is the possibility for future conversion to condominiums. The idea is years away, because the housing bonds that financed Clover Creek impose a 10-year time period for rentals. However, today`s quality is geared toward the long term. ``We feel that by putting dollars up front, we`ll get a better return on our investment,`` DiCostanzo said.
Two two-story and seven four-story buildings, located on the 34-acre site, are clustered around extensively landscaped grounds. There are five retention ponds, two completely aerated and part of a moving waterway.
Clover Creek offers an adults` swimming pool, whirlpool, two fenced tennis courts, a 3,350 square-foot clubhouse and paved, lighted parking areas. The project contains 128 one-bedroom apartments, 266 two-bedroom, 46 two- bedroom and den, and 64 three-bedroom apartments. Each has carpeting; vinyl floors in bath and kitchen; and all-electric appliances including washer and dryer.
It is located on Foxworth Boulevard, north off 22d Street and west of Finley Road, about one mile west of Yorktown Shopping Center.
