Police arrest 18-year-old man for alleged attempted robbery and assault in Alexandria

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly trying to rob a woman near a bike trail and assaulting another woman as she was going into an apartment building in Alexandria.

Joshua Sprinkle faced charges of abduction, attempted robbery and sexual battery, police said Wednesday.

Officials said the incidents unfolded Aug. 14 around 3:24 p.m. when police said Sprinkle allegedly grabbed a woman from behind and demanded money near a bike trail along Holmes Run Parkway. The victim struggled with the suspect and fled, police said.

Then, just before 4 p.m. on that same day, police were called to the 500 block of N. Jordan Street where they alleged that Sprinkle grabbed a woman as she walked up the stairs inside an apartment building. The woman screamed and the suspect fled.

Two days later, police said they arrested Sprinkle. He is being held without bond.

Authorities said they believe Sprinkle may have assaulted other women in the area and ask that anyone with information call 703-746-6858.
