Name of man found dead in South Point apartment released

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The name of a man who was found dead in an apartment in South Point has been released.

According to the South Point Police Department, the man was Kendall Ramon Davis Junior, 26, of Detroit.

There is no word on whether or not foul play was involved, but the South Point Police Chief says they are following up with as many leads as possible.

Davis' family has been contacted.

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- South Point Police say they are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead in an apartment in South Point.

"At this point, we're not ruling out anything," said Police Chief Chris Majher. "There's some indicators that there is a possibility of foul play."

Majher says 911 got a call around 6 a.m. Police responded to an apartment on Meadow Lane in South Point.

The man was dead upstairs. Majher says a person who also lived in the apartment found the man and called the police.

At this time, the case is being investigated as homicide, according to police.

The victim has not been identified yet.

Majher says this is a low-crime area. He says this is unusual for this neighborhood and the town in general.

"We don't typically have a lot of homicides or murders," said Majher. ""It's your quintessential, hometown America."

Jay Haas lives two doors down from the apartment and agreed, saying this was a shock on their street.

"It just makes us all feel uncomfortable and uneasy right now," said Haas. "We're all real close. It's just never like this, ever. Like I said, it's real calm. Everybody down here knows everybody. It's a sweet, gentle neighborhood and waking up to news like this, it's just scary. It's very scary."

Majher say there are several people who live at the apartment. Haas says she does know some of them and has her suspicions about what happened.

"I mean, the things like the people, their company, you know," said Haas. "It's still shocking 'cause I didn't think that it would have escalated to this point ever."

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office and Ohio BCI are assisting in the investigation.

"I hope they can figure out what's going on and put an end to all this," said Haas, the mother of a 3-year-old daughter. "I don't want her to be growing up around stuff like this that would happen frequently or happens every now and then."

Police believe this was an isolated incident and Majher says neighbors should not be worried about their own safety.

"I would say everyone can go about their daily lives," said Majher, adding that there will be increased patrols in the area to keep an eye on things.

At this time, no suspects have been identified according to police.

Sheriff Lawless says a man in his 30s was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

South Point Police Chief Chris Majher says the man was found upstairs by someone who lived in the apartment.

At this time, the case is being investigated as homicide, according to police.

The coroner, as well as Ohio BCI have been to called to the scene.

Chief Majher says a crime like this is very unusual for this neighborhood, which is typically a low crime area.

No suspects have been identified at this time, according to Chief Majher.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless says the man was found just before 6 a.m. at an apartment on Meadow Lane in South Point.
