Robbery reported at Foxwood Apartment Homes in Portage

UPDATED: One suspect arrested; three more sought

PORTAGE — Two men were robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon outside an apartment complex in Portage, the latest in a recent string of armed robberies.

The men told police they had pulled into a carport at Foxwood Apartment Homes at about 4:42 p.m. when a light-skinned black male, about 6 feet tall, knocked on the driver-side window, according to Portage police.

After the driver lowered his window, the suspect reached in, put the car in park, got into the back seat and ordered the two to put their heads down, police said.

The driver said the man held what he believed to be a gun to the back of his head, put duct tape over his eyes and demanded their wallets.

The men, ages 22 and 24, threw their wallets into the back seat and the suspect got out of the car and fled east.

Foxwood Apartment Homes is located off of 12th Street just north of I-94.

Over the weekend, authorities reported that there were four armed robberies within a span of several hours in eastern Oshtemo Township and on the west side of Kalamazoo.
