Man arrested in Southfield apartment fire; arson suspected

Southfield police have arrested a 32-year-old Southfield man in connection with a suspected arson fire early Monday, April 24, at the Regal Towers apartment complex.

Police do not yet have a motive for the suspected arson, said Nick Loussia, deputy police chief.

The man has not been arraigned yet and his name has not been released. He was arrested a few hours after the fire broke out at about 5 a.m., he said.

About 80 people were evacuated from the complex off Franklin Road near 11 Mile Road. One person was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, said James Bunker, battalion chief of the Southfield Fire Department.
