Arson Charges Filed in Woodbridge Apartment Fire

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — One person is charged with intentionally setting a fire in Woodbridge on Saturday.

Fire crews were called to an apartment in the 15700 block of Tassleford Lane off Cardinal Drive about 5:56 a.m. Saturday for a report of a fire.

As crews arrived, they saw light smoke at the four-story apartment complex. The fire, which occurred on the first floor, was contained by a sprinkler system, said Prince William fire and recue Battalion Chief Curt Brodie.

With the fire out and building ventilated, the fire marshal’s office investigated the blaze and determined the fire was intentionally set.

Timothy Michael Smith, of Woodbridge, is charged with arson in connection to the blaze. He is scheduled to appear in court August 22.

No injuries were reported in the fire, and the damage is estimated to be $5,000.

This fire comes as investigators were still looking into what caused a fire at a townhouse in Dumfries on July 16. Investigators have offered little information on the case, but so far no one has been charged.
