Man rushed to hospital after shooting in Reading apartment | Reading Eagle

A 19-year-old man was shot inside an apartment Thursday morning in the 300 block of North 11th Street, Reading police said.

The man was rushed by ambulance to Reading Hospital after calling 9-1-1 shortly before 7:30 a.m. to report being shot, Sgt. Darrin Dougherty said.

The victim underwent surgery for a single gunshot wound to the chest, Dougherty said. Police did not release the man's name so further information about his medical condition was unavailable.

Officers placed police tape in front of the residence and were seen going into and out of the house. They also checked an alley next to the house.

Police on the scene said it wasn't clear when the shooting happened. Residents watched the police activity across the street and said they didn't hear any shots.

Several police cars blocked the intersection with Buttonwood Street while police investigated.

Police took one person from the scene to City Hall for an interview, but he didn't provide any useful information, Dougherty said.
