SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - Residents from 14 units in an apartment building are displaced after a fire early Monday morning.

The Sun Prairie Fire Department was called at 4:04 a.m. to the 600 block of Schiller Street on a report of an apartment fire. Firefighters said there was heavy smoke coming from the building when they arrived.

Firefighters from Deforest, Dane, and Columbus assisted at the scene.

Fire officials say no one was injured. Twenty-five people were picked up by a Metro bus and taken to the Sun Prairie Middle School. Officials said the school district is providing a place for displaced residents to stay until alternative housing is arranged. The Red Cross is assisting those families, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
