Fire at Westridge Apartments deemed arson

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire officials determined to be arson.

LFR responded to a call at the Westridge Apartments on 1606 Elkhart Avenue. The fire was put out upon their arrival.

LFR identified multiple points of ignition in a vacant apartment.

"A lot of heavy smoke damage and heat damage," said Allen Martin, a fire investigator with the Lubbock Fire Marshall's Office. "There was no furniture so it was mostly the carpet and a lot of smoke damage on the walls."

According to the apartment complex manager, the apartment has been vacant for several months and no injuries were reported.

LFR crews are still investigating.
