ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives have arrested the second suspect in the rape of two young girls who said they were given an Uber ride to a northeast Albuquerque apartment last week.
Deputy Felicia Maggard, a spokeswoman for the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, said Leon Harker, 19, was booked into jail Wednesday evening on two counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and other charges.
She said the two girls, ages 12 and 16, told detectives Harker’s friend, Shane Sandoval, 21, had called an Uber driver to pick up them up at a runaway shelter and give them a ride to his apartment.

That’s where the girls said Sandoval and Leon Harker, 19, both raped each of them, Maggard said.
Detectives arrested Sandoval Friday on the same charges.
Maggard said the detectives investigating the case wanted to emphasize that the young girls should not be blamed for being in a situation where they were raped.
“In most cases a victim is promised one thing and then violently attacked or coerced and sexually assaulted,” she wrote. “The people being charged in this crime deserve 100 percent of the blame.”
