Police: Man shot while driving on Kecoughtan Road in Hampton

A man was shot while driving on Kecoughtan Road in Hampton Tuesday night, police said.

Officers and medics were dispatched to the Monterey Apartments in the 600 block of Lasalle Avenue about 8 p.m. after the victim drove himself there before calling for help, police spokeswoman Cpl. Ashley Jenrette said in a news release.

The 31-year-old Hampton man told police he was driving in the 2300 block of Kecoughtan Road when an unknown suspect began firing toward the vehicle. He was struck once during the incident, Jenrette said.

He was taken to the hospital with an injury that is not believed to be life-threatening, she said. 

Police do not have suspect information to release, and the motive is not known, Jenrette said. Hampton police and state troopers are investigating a shooting that left one person taken to a hospital Tuesday night, according to dispatch.

The call came in about 8 p.m. at the Monterey Apartments in the 600 block of Lasalle Avenue.

Officials on the scene said the person does not have life-threatening injuries.
