Murder Suspect May Be Hiding In Coral Gables
CORAL GABLES, FL — City police were given a photo and description of an alleged Massachusetts murder suspect on Friday who may be hiding in the Coral Gables area. Cornel Bell is believed to be armed and possibly traveling in a stolen dark blue 2005 Ford pickup with Massachusetts plates. The 46-year-old Bell is wanted by Massachusetts State Police in connection with the Aug. 19 slaying of his girlfriend.
"We're assisting their agency with whatever resources they need from us because they are a distance away," Officer Kelly Denham of the Coral Gables Police Department told Patch on Friday. "All of our officers have been made aware of the subject. They have his picture. They have the vehicle description and so they are aware of the situation."
According to Massachusetts State Police, Bell may be traveling under the names Tony Smith, Mark Simmons, Cornel James, Cornel Carara, Cavin Lebert or Kerrol Florizel Bailey. Police said Bell has three separate Massachusetts motor vehicle licenses under different names. The Massachusetts license plate number of the pickup is FF47BK.

"He is known to have ties to Miami."Denham said that Coral Gables police are keeping Bell on their radar but are not actively participating in the investigation into the slaying of 33-year-old Michele Clarke, who was found murdered in her Lake Street apartment in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
"We just want to err on the side of caution if he is in our area," said Denham. "We don't know if there's any relatives here. We don't know why he would travel out of the state of Massachusetts down to Coral Gables. We just want to be prepared in case we do run across him because he is considered dangerous and he still could be armed from the alleged homicide."
"This is a bad guy. we need our residents to be alert, anybody in South Florida not just our Coral Gables residents and our then officers as well," Denham added. "We need to have the officers make sure that they have his picture, his vehicle description so if they run across the suspect they can use the proper precautions of holding him."Anyone who believes they see BELL or the vehicle should keep their distance and call 9-1-1 immediately. To report a tip on BELL or his whereabouts, call Massachusetts State Police Trooper Yuri Bukhenik at 703-887-6207 or Weymouth Police Detective Sergeant Robert Regan at 339-201-1324.
