Apartment fire kills 4 pets, displaces 2 adults

JACKSON, MI - An apartment fire claimed the lives of four pets and displaced two residents Sunday night.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m., Aug. 13, inside the apartment at Abbey Villas Apartments, 308 Van Buran St., said Jackson firefighter Joe Smith.

Firefighters were able to control and isolate the blaze to the single unit, sparing 40 adjacent units, Smith said.

Two dogs and two cats were killed and two residents were displaced in the blaze, which rendered the apartment uninhabitable, Smith said.

There were no injures reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
