WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Crews with the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the Cypress Grove Apartments Thursday night.

According to the WFD, firefighters arrived to the scene around 11:37 p.m. and found light smoke showing. Flames were visible in the kitchen area after a size up.

Fire crews quickly battled the flames and had the fire under control within five minutes of arrival.

Once the fire was under control, Wilmington Fire Investigators arrived to the scene and determined the fire started in the kitchen due to unattended cooking. It was ruled accidental.

There are no reported injuries to any civilians or fire personnel.

There’s a big demand for more affordable housing in Charlotte, where rents and home prices have shot up much faster than wages over the past few years.
