Newborn Baby Found in Bushes At Harris County Apartment Complex

A newborn girl was left abandoned in bushes outside a Texas apartment complex less than an hour after she was born.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to The Bridges of Cypress Creek apartment complex on Red Oak Drive early Thursday morning.

Investigators said a resident at the complex, who was on his way to work, heard a baby crying, looked in a flower bed and found the newborn covered in ants and other debris. He said he yelled for his wife to call 911 as he ran to find something to get the baby warm and clean. "That's just sad, for a human being to do another human being like that", Peterson told the station. "He found a baby girl still with the umbilical cord on, lying on the ground". She was covered from head to toe and all in her ears. Save haven laws allow mothers in crisis to leave their newborns in a safe environment, such as a hospital or fire station, without questions or repercussions. When deputies knocked on the door, the residents at first refused to answer, investigators said.

"Bro...that's insane. Somebody left their baby out here...you gotta call 911, bro", John Baldwin said in a video he shot.

Harris County Deputy Thomas Gilliland deemed is a "miracle" the baby was found alive. They followed a trail of blood to an apartment where a 21-year-old woman admitted to being the mother.

It is the second infant abandonment that LifeNews has reported about this week.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, to be checked out.

"It's like they just left the baby out there like it was trash", Baldwin told reporters from KTRK ABC13.

The baby girl is in the NICU at Texas Children's Hospital in The Woodlands and according to deputies, she is in good condition. She could be facing charges of abandoning a child.
